I have a Granada Scorpio as my main car, so I'm pleased to see how much effort went into the design and testing of the model

This was long before 1988, the Sierra was introduced to the market in 1982, it was designed in the late 1970s, don't know why they have 1988 in the description.

@@MrGoogelaar Couldn't have been _long_ before 1988 as it shows a Sierra Sapphire, which was launched in 1987. Ford wouldn't have been able to show development footage from 1988 or so as that would still have been classified.

@@lewis72 The Sierra was designed in the late 1970s and the video consistently shows Sierras under testing etc, by 1988 the Sierras were on he market for a couple of years already by 1988. The whole video is about the development and testing of the Sierra that happened in the late 70s and not in 1988. The video was most probably made only in 1988 using footage from the time the Sierra was developed about ten years earlier and a couple of pics of the Sapphire that was nothing but a booted Sierra were included.

As a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 owner, I can say that this video gave me strong feelings. As a person who often works near to automotive development, this made me understand how far we go with methodology approaches on many fields. Finally, as a YT user, I thank you for bringing back such incredible video from the past.

What an incredible amount of work and man power back then, it probably cost more back then to develop and produce a new model than it does now.

I love the Granada. My dad decided against Ford's by the 1980s as he didn't like 'the petrol smell of the interiors'.

I much prefer the Mk5 to the Mk6, the Mk6 was just a blob and had no character whatsoever.

@@cresto9325 you're kidding right? As stated previously I had three Escort company cars in the 90s, they were dire. I then drove one of the first Focuses & the difference was like night & day, the Focus moved the game on considerably.

This was more 1978 than 1988, the Sierra came on the market in 1982 so development probably began in 1978.

And you have no idea what the modern Ford is. They lack the character of the old so it is who cares. Saw a 'Ka +' today, didn't even know it existed. To think the Sierra was once the best seller and nowadays no idea what the replacement is.

Ford were hardly going to show what cars they were designing & developing in 1988 in a 1988 video, are they ? The Sapphire dates this at around 1988.

@@lewis72 By 1988 Ford's designers were probably sitting around playing with their toes as their cars were then designed by Mazda as Lasers and Telstars so they had to make a video of a car designed ten years earlier.

@@MrGoogelaar I doubt they were sitting around. Like I said, they couldn't release to the public what they had in their styling studios at the time, could they ? Even staff of the same company are not allowed in styling studios unless they're specifically involved in that aspect.

@@lewis72 I said it tongue in the cheek as a lot of Fords after the Sierra were badge engineered Mazdas. The video was obvious about the Sierra development and that started in the late 70s, by '88 the Sierra was already on the market for a couple of years, that is why I said the 1988 in the caption of the video is sort of misleading, the video was maybe made in 1988 but the contents are from almost ten years earlier.

@@MrGoogelaar Ah, OK A lot of the footage was Granada/Scorpio, which would have been about '82-'83 IMO for an '85 launch car. Only Probe was badge engineered Mazda, wasn't it ? Mazda 121 was a Fiesta Mk4 with badges on it.

I really like the Mk3 Granada. That rear 1/4 glass is a fantastic styling feature, even if the front end is less distinctive.
