Your video is spot on so thank you very very much!! The install took approx. 1 hour and I used the same camera you recommended from Amazon which was plug and play. No programing required. FYI The old camera was not only blurry but it was upside down which I'm told is another common issue. The new camera is clear as glass and right side up so I'm trilled as I saved over 700 dollars because the dealer was quoting 500 for camera and 350 to install. 👍👍👍👍

Dan - This was a great tutorial video and walked me through the entire process without a hitch. One step I added because I questioned the quality of my $32 eBay camera is once I installed the camera and connected the wires I tested the function of the camera. Then I was confident is completing the reassembly and everything is working just fine. Took me about 1 1/2 hours working at a relaxed pace and cleaning parts as I went. Prior to the replacement my screen never displayed a message and it only functioned properly about 10% of the time. Sometimes it would appear on the screen for several seconds then disappear.

I wanted to add my own thanks. For me, the camera was blacking out 80% of the time, either immediately or after a few seconds of operation, and then displaying, "Camera is unavailable. Please contact your dealership." I took a gamble that the camera was at fault, and replacing it has fixed the problem so far.

Thanks for posting this video. I have had the same issue with my backup camera for the last 80,000 miles. This was just the motivation I needed to order a replacement camera. I look forward to seeing your battery replacement video in the future. My batteries started going bad at 37,000 miles. They quickly deteriorated to only 9 miles to a charge by 42,000 miles on the vehicle. I took it to the dealership. They told me this was normal wear of a battery??? I now have 120,000 miles and still get 9 miles to a charge. I love everything about my C-Max..... Except the Ford dealership!!! UPDATE: Order the camera you suggested from Amazon. With the help of your thorough video, had it installed in less than an hour. Thanks so much Dan!! The only thing I would do differently if there's a next time, is to order the actual OEM camera for another $50 off eBay. The aftermarket camera is very clear and fits perfectly. But gives me a slightly different view that I need to get used to. AND more importantly, the lines on my camera no longer matchup with the outer edge of my vehicles tires. The lines in the back-up camera now are about 5in narrower on each side. Not that big a deal, but worth noting.

Thanks for your meticulous steps. I was wondering if the Ford B-Max Rear Camera Housing would work for the C-Max: FORD B-MAX 12-/ FOCUS 14- Rear View Camera Mounting Bracket OEM Part# 1747479. The part looks almost identical and costs about $20. Seems like you could break off the old one and mount the new camera to the new housing then snap it in ???? What do you think?

@@DansWay After some research, I found that this part is identical in North America to BM5Z19H421A (mainly back-ordered in the US). So, it appears to fit the 2013-2018 C-Max models and others like Fusion or Transit Connect. Some US dealers still have a few on hand. The ones (w/OEM #1747479) on eBay are coming from Europe and may take longer to ship. It looks like Ford UK has them, but they do not offer US shipping. Thanks for showing us how to change out all of the bulbs to LED, as well. I'm going to try these upgrades soon.

Thanks much for the video. I'm wondering what year is your C-Max? I've got a 2014 energi and the backup camera has started glitching... sometimes it works, sometimes it's a black screen. Ford likes to change details from year to year so the camera or even connection points might be a little off..or not. The Dealership gave me a low-guess at $600 just to look at it to see what the problem might be.

My son this morning told me that the backup camera image is upside down. As he was backing out of the garage, he yelled "hey, its doing it!" Sure enough, the image was upside down. Ever heard of this anomaly? As you are aware, I was planning on replacing the camera as you did in this video. But now this new issue has come to light. Was wondering if there is more to it. he also mentioned that sometimes when he puts it into reverse, he just gets an error message. Ever heard of this?

Hey Paul, Yah I have heard of those issues when reading the forums. I have no idea on the upside down image issue. Some report that the connection to the camera, or elsewhere is glitchy, so the car can't read or otherwise communicate with the camera and thus the error. Replacing the camera 'could' fix these issues, but I have no idea honestly.

In case it helps someone else about 2 weeks ago my backup camera stopped working about 85% of the time with the error message saying camera not available, see dealer. Occasionally it would work and some of those times the image would be upside down. After reviewing this video (Thanks!), I ordered the camera (Dorman 592-008 Rear Park Assist Camera) and some plastic trim tools from Amazon. I was able to replace it and I did have one of the tabs on the camera bracket break. I secured it with a trimmed piece of duct tape, and I think it will be fine. If not, I know the camera works and how to get to it now.

Looking at the reviews of that replacement camera on Amazon. The majority were positive, but this was the lone negative one: Customer Review jprep 1.0 out of 5 stars Replaced twice and both times video was grainy and pixilated. Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2022 Verified Purchase This particular camera was recommended by other and came with decent reviews. Had to send it back twice because the camera view was grainy and pixelated. Finally went with an OEM part which is only a few dollars more and works perfectly. Other than the camera picture being crap I have to wait 14 days or so after it is return received before I get my money back. Says he sent it back twice? I ended up doing the disassembly/assembly process three times myself: One time, I wanted to look at the connector to see if there was any corrosion that I could clean off to rejuvenate it - I did not find any. The second time, the actual replacement. The third time, when I was about to take it for a test drive and I realized I had forgotten to reattach the 10mm bolts! Well I guess that's not the *whole* disassembly, but most of it.
