My local dealer still has some remaining 2023 e transits in stock and they’re taking $20,000 off. Worth it?

Thanks for sharing the good and the bad about E-Transit. Bummer about needing a tow just a couple miles from home. I've seen/read little about winter weather effects on EVs in general. I suppose this is because most are passenger vehicles not used in demanding business scenario, plus ~90% of them have excess range / battery capacity apparently required to sell the public on EVs and prevaling range anxiety.

Yes I use the Ford mobile connector on a 240 V 30 amp outlet, and then I have a Tesla wall charger on a separate breaker, but same specification

Would you consider carrying a generator to recharge your battery? We are trying to figure out to make sure we are never in a situation to be waiting for a tow truck.
@SpiritCannon
Жыл бұрын
that may or may not be worthwhile. Depending upon the weight of the generator, you can expect to lose Is somewhere between 2 and 10 miles of range per battery cycle due to the excess payload. For me, those small amount of Miles make the difference between getting to a charging point or not. Then, taken to account that the generator will likely only supply A120 Volt supply which will equate to level one charging. So if you're broke down you'll be limited to about 1.5 kw for charging which would take about an hour to get a mile or 2 of range. For some that might be worth the peace of mind, but for me that's more hassle than it's worth.

There's a fellow on KZitem called Tesla Bjørn who does a lot of EV testing. He has some videos where he uses a portable battery designed for EV charging. I recommend checking them out. The weight to performance ratio might be worth it. I think he waited about 20 or 30 minutes to get the charge he needed. He gives a ton of details in his videos.

A generator big enough (12kW?) to give 10 miles of charge in 1 hour (L2) would be large and heavy (250#?), cost about $2000, impact your cargo capacity and have to hold 8 gals of gas to run that 1 hour which would be smelly and dangerous. Probably not practical.

I have e-transit also. 13k miles on it. Right now its 20 degree in NYC. At 100% charge I get around 105 miles. While using heat, it would be much less.

Unfortunately I bought this van and it’s a big regret, I won’t be surprised if they discontinue this model and bring back diesel, also to the power level, it is impossible to keep it below 25% on the highway cause the roads are going up down, those vans are ok in city’s not on highway.

you should with the new charger always be full when you leave home and work. if you can level 2 charge at any destination that also helps alot, with all the big changes in infrastructre, its been doubling every year, expect it to start tripling, and pro advice, avoid EA like the plauge. But sounds like your main issues are just with the winter range, do you have a cargo divider? if not get one, if so insulate it, so you only heat where you are, plus id get a heated seat cover, that'd probably extend your comfort and range alot.

I have a mid-roof 2022 E-transit. I also have the bad range when using the E-heat. I believe there is a bug where it heats the cab more than requested. With it set to 60 F it will heat the cab to 75-80 with the outside temp in the 30s. (I have a bulkhead to divide the cargo area from the cab) Let me know if this seems like something you have noticed. I believe it is using more power to heat than it should need to.

There's a TSB out on this, also for the gas powered transits as well. The fix is to replace the HVAC discharge air temp sensor and reprogram the control module. The issue seems to be only on transits built from 2019 thru May 2023.

idk why they dont have an 80kwh battery option, the van has the same battery size as the standard range model 3 but its way bigger (drag, weight ect)

I’m looking forward to the day when one of these can be used as a passenger van to take longer trips in where the van can charge while the 12-15 passengers use the restroom and grab a bite to eat. Not sure if it will come soon. But that will make a huge difference in practicality and desirability.

I think Ford is going to regret not doing an Ev ground up build with a structural pack when the competition starts bringing them out, they will easily have a 25% range advantage with the weight savings and room for a bigger pack...

Mercedes is about to start delivering the second generation eSprinter van. The first generation had lower range than Ford. But the new version is supposed to get over 200 miles EPA. We'll see how it does when they start selling them. I'm sure Ford will have a second gen before long. It will probably offer close to double the range and faster charging. Hopefully also a heat pump for more efficient heating.

kinda disappointed with those numbers, to be quite frank. I just hope they can just increase the range by at least 50% more. 100% increase would be even better. Not sure if it could be possible, but when there's a will, there's a way. you know what they say.

It will happen one day. This machine was not built from the ground up to be an electric vehicle. If it was they could fit a 100 kW hour battery pack in here no problem rather than the 60 something that's in currently

Why would you buy a vehicle(car or van) where you have to be cold just to conserve charge? Ev drivers punish themselves in winter by not using heat and the whole EV thing around range! Constant range anxiety which you just don't get with a petrol or diesel engine. Ev's are not the future. It has to be hydrogen, I think.
