Personal preference, I prefer removing the wipers and cowl. It takes about the same time and there isn't the risk of breaking the MIDI fuses that are connected to the wiring harness you have to move, which causes a no-start condition.

This video was most helpful. I had to deal with this when my battery unexpectedly died this weekend. I usually have the guys at the auto parts store replace batteries but this time I had to deal with it. Fortunately, I am somewhat handy. That said, you should never have needed to make this video!!!! The designers of this car should be ashamed of themselves for putting the battery in such a hard to get to place that requires engine parts to be removed. Anyone should be able to look at a car battery and be able to replace it in just a few minutes without removing anything beyond the tie down.

It is very easy jump another another battery. 1. Connect the ground jumper cable to the "Jump start post" (as described in the user manual) (over to the right) where the negative battery cable is secured to the body. 1. POP the plastic battery cover off to expose the positive post.

At the beginning he said it had to do with crashs and weight distribution that's the Ford answer. The real reason is to force you to go to the shop and pay them to do a job you Used to be able to do yourself. And that's no cheap battery either $300-$400.

My son and I did his 2014 Ford Escape battery replacement a few days ago. I am very handy and have many tools and enjoy working on vehicles, appliance repairs, etc. let me tell you straight, this is not a job for 2/3 of DIYers. The video is excellent but really doesn’t show the difficulty in accessing various nuts, bolts, etc that need to be removed. First off, you need a 13 mm deep socket for removing neutral cable on firewall, thankfully a 9/16” worked asI didn’t have a deep 13 mm socket with me at his garage. Even removing the 8 mm battery tie down holder is time consuming but a ratchet wrench worked fine. The air filter box removal is a struggle, lots of strength needed to unseat the bottom pins as everything is so tight. We got it done but count on 90-120 minutes from start to finish. It was 0C or 32F here. On reviewing the windshield wiper and cowling removal alternative method, I think I would use that procedure next time as long as you are careful with wiper removal and indexing location of wiper position. I can certainly see why a dealer would charge 1-2 hours for this as there is no quick way following factory method as shown. Autozone and others are wise to refuse to do a free battery swap on these Ford Escapes. Way too much time as well as risk of breaking something.

This is a GREAT video. Two additional suggestions: First, when you pull the battery forward, the shoulder on the bottom of the battery tray keeps the battery from sliding out. A small pry bar under the battery allowed it to slide all the way forward. Once I got the negative cable loose and out (I unplugged the sensor wire to the negative cable block.) Second: After running the negative cable end through the bench wire brush, I reassembled per the video. Just as I was about to reconnect the negative cable to the firewall, I saw I forgot to reinstall the negative cable end sensor that should have been plugged in BEFORE reassembling the battery top bracket. After 20 minutes of trying to fish the cable back to the back, I took a break. When I returned, I removed the battery hold down bracket, which then allowed me to get my hand in there. Upon further inspection, I had been trying to push the connector on backwards! I rotated it 180 degrees and it snapped right on!! Great repair, poor Ford design. Thanks for this professional video. The factory manual is usually a bit more reliable than all of the DIY remedies!

It was in the way of the video. You don't need to remove it in this method. They did it so you can see what they are doing.

My 2015 Escape was a bit different. The temperature sensor housing has a second intake tube that blocks the forward screw. However, that second tube snaps out and then you can remove the forward screw. You might notice too that he never explicitly says to move the brake fluid reservoir, but sometimes in the video its in place while other times it has been moved. Mine was in way, so it probably does need to be moved. The next problem is that although you can remove the air filter housing with the intake hose and temperature sensor housing in place, you can't see to reinstall it. There are small hoses that have to be moved out of the way to seat the air filter rear attachment into the rubber socket. You'll have to remove the intake hose and sensor housing to see what you're doing. Also, he didn't show how incredibly finicky the air filter cover is. Some mechanics will try to force it down and strip out the plastic screw beds. But, overall, the video was quite helpful. 👍

Great video. This method is by far the better method than the video which shows taking off the wipers, engine cover/rain shield pan etc.. When I first bought the 2013 Escape the battery failed after four years and I said no problem and started. Well, I started just like your video but I got to a point where the battery tray would not come out. Well, you went through the steps and lifted out the battery tray. Well, it doesn't lift out as easily as it looked when you did it. Finally, I realized that two grommets (?) have to be somewhat yanked out. Then, after that tug, yank, or strongarm pull, it worked just like you said. The other difficult part, as least for a 1st timer, was getting the air inlet from the front of the car to the air filter removed. After some study it wasn't nearly as hard as I was making it. Now I've done it, I could do it in about 20 minutes tops. Thanks for the video. I'm am most pleased with myself. And you!

@@TheBatteryShop Thanks for the reply and thanks for the effort to publish your video. I guess the motivation for my post was all the "less than rational" posts I found here. When I was in the workforce (as a design engineer) I found two types of folks when it came to criticizing "the other fellows work". 1. The thoughtful types who understood that "compromise" is a main ingredient for all but the simplest of design. 2. The rest. The ones that have not taken the time to fully understand "compromise", typically have no idea how to make a better design, but love to spout off about how stupid others are. They are also the ones who seldom take the time to "RTFM". Case in point: One poster here complained bitterly about not being able to jump another vehicle with an Escape. When, in fact, that procedure is well documented in the User Manual. You spell out one procedure... I chose the other one. Both got the job done. End of story.

Ridiculous design. What do you do when you need a jump?
@TheBatteryShop

Hi - Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion! There are "jump posts" under the hood. We suggest you check the vehicle owner's manual for the procedures.

I think the easiest way is to remove the wipers, the plastic cowl and the metal bracket and change it out from the topside

I gotta tell you, we followed this video step by step this morning on my Mom's 2013 Escape. You were spot on. There was some weird clip stuff and some other stuff as always that you won't learn until you do it. Stripes earned. Ty for this video. Saved us a ton of time today.

Wow, great video! Two comments - I was doing this on my in-laws 2014 Escape so I wanted to put all the parts back properly. It took me probably 45 minutes to get the BACK side of the battery cover on and I'm still not sure it's engaged properly. The video shows putting on the front of the cover and the battery I was replacing was installed by the local dealer so I'm not sure that the back of the cover was ever on correctly after the dealer had done the install about 4 years ago. Both parts of the batter cover were just loose and laying on top of the battery. Why isn't the back of the battery cover installed permanently at the factory so the front would just clip into it? Much of this is done by feel since you can't see it while working with your hands underneath the cowling. Second - make sure the battery is shoved all the way back in the battery box before you put the front of the box back on or you won't be able to get the front of the box engaged (I learned this the hard way). I didn't bother to check the owner's manual on how to replace the battery and this video was great!!! I once had a GMC Acadia and the owner's manual didn't even tell you where the battery is (it's under the back seat in the floor). C'mon American car manufacturers, you can do better than this!!! Because of nonsence like this, I will never buy a GMC or a Ford again (don't get me going on the cabin air filter for this car). But, great video! It took me about 2 hours total to do this job, taking my time and playing with the battery cover for about 45 minutes.

LEFT OUT RESETTING THE PCM (powertrain control module) ... If the battery is disconnected for a long time.... the PCM will lose data and have to be reset ... otherwise the engine could run rough for a LONG TIME before idle / running parameters get "tuned"
@TheBatteryShop
Жыл бұрын
Hi - Thanks for watching! PCMs are not reset. If they lose data, they revert to Open Loop status until driving parameters are learned. P1000 will then be reset after all of the monitors have run with no faults detected. According to BCI, these vehicles do not require that the battery be registered with the Battery Control Module. The use of a memory saver during battery replacement will avoid these issues.

Seems to be a lot of ambient current flow causing a spark when you disconnect/ reconnect the negative wire to the frame. My daughters battery lasted 9 years in her 2014 Escape.

Ford next 12 V battery design: battery is now between engine and transmission under vehicle. To replace it: remove transmission from engine, then remove exhaust and catalyc, then remove exhaust manifold. Then, get to battery... 😂😂
