Things I like about this channel: (1) No jibber-jabber. (2) No overedited, super-zoomie intros. (3) No blaring music to show how cool they are. (4) The word 'Diesel' is not part of the channel name. (5) True technical expertise. (6) Familiar situations never fail to interest. (7) Honestly likable people. (8) 230,000 mile XJ has 30,000 miles of wheelspin. (9) Great camera work and editing. (10) Incredible visuals.

Funny story, back east whenever I pull someone out of a ditch, they always pull out their wallet and try to pay me - I say no, just being neighborly - then they ask if my boss is ok with it - why would my boss care, I'd ask - "well, you work for Winder Towing! you sure you don't need to bill me?" I once had a 4x4 with an automatic. And to flat tow an automatic all hooked up can be bad so I would pull the rear driveshaft. To keep dirt out of the transmission tail shaft I would stretch a rubber glove over it. No worries about it blowing off, and the empty fingers waved happily in the breeze.

That noise was the hubs popping these 2013-2016 are notorious for doing it if they aren’t seating proper when going into 4x4 it’ll do it mine does it to but I take a bit more time to make sure that the splines for the hubs are seated an I haven’t had a pop in a while. It mainly does it when initially put into 4x4 an with a bit of throttle is when it pops so when it goes into 4x4 reverse pull forward like 2 times an should be fine after that. Just for further recovery’s like that with these newer f150’s

FYI the f150 doesn’t have a mechanical lock between front and rear when in 4x4 H. It uses a electromagnetic clutch. It was probably engaging and disengaging the front driveshaft causing the banging noise.

the rag could likely to get sucked into the transfer case and now pulling the case and go over it to pull out shredded RAG in it ? leave those broken shafts in the transfer case if you can ? , tie-em with bailing wire and let shaft spin free keeping it all sealed up ! wrap wire around shaft a few wraps twist it tight around the middle for use as a stopping collar keeping the shaft from drifting out, then more wire a few inches back behind the tightly wrapped wire with several pretty loose wraps, then up to frame somewhere , supporting the shaft go slow check once in a while to see its working right re-adjust if necessary . you could use straps the same way also thought of that one later. That worked for me 12 miles ''slowly''

Wow, I had no idea driveshafts weren't solid
@Fix_It_Again_Tony
3 жыл бұрын
If the shaft was solid it would weight a lot and be quite a bit more expensive, from material costs alone. Hollow shafts have a better strength to weight ratio than solid shafts. Many driveshafts are aluminum now, like the one in the video. If you look closely, it is actually very thin. Hollow driveshafts, even aluminum ones, are plenty strong enough, but what usually happens is the shafts gets dented from hitting the ground when off roading and then is not nearly as strong any more. Watch at 6:58 and you can see where the shaft has rubbed on something as the truck was driving. Just a moment later you can see an end view of the broken shaft and it is only about a 1/16" thick. The strength comes from the shaft's diameter. In more serious off road vehicles the shafts get replaced with thicker steel ones to resist the dents that can cause failure.
@diavalus

@@Fix_It_Again_Tony very true what Tony said above. On top of that, if I am not mistaken, drive shafts should also be the weak link in case the rear diff is locking up somehow.
