Eric, I have been welding exhaust pipes for over 50 years and have seen several PROFESSIONAL WELDERS that couldn't weld exhaust pipes. If it holds and doesn't leak, it's good. Great job as usual!!

When I got my first car in the early 60s, it was a six cylinder. So of course I had to have the manifold split so it sounded better. From there I welded the second pipe from the manifold on out. Dad had a stick welder but I brazed everything and yes, there were many cracks and broken welds. But that's what made it fun............... lol

Your welding machine was set very close. (Voltage and amperage) Just hearing how your machine was running tells most of the story (being a welder myself). Looks like you did a great job with the exhaust pipe. I wish I had a garage with a lift in it 😢. But keep up the great work you do and keep the videos coming. Stay safe (you and your family) 🙏

Many times when the shop was poor I’ve used thick metal coat hangers as brazing rods and done clean work.

Let me say this about good small family owned repair shops. I had a similar issue and chain muffler shops say”Cat back” every time.$1000-$1300 I took it to a small shop. In and out in 2 hours with a piece of pipe welded in and $120.00 cost Thanks SMA and all the shops like you.

That weld was much better the the weld that my local (Route 66 Muffler) did on my Cat Back exhaust system on my Cummins! Keep up the great work Eric and don't let anybody tell you you're not a good welder!🙏🏻👍

You know as an OLDER GM lover, I was happy to see a Ford in the shop. Alas, just rusty exhaust! I think those welds turned out great. Too bad about the salt belt some nice cars getting wasted from rust! Mom’s old 2010 Escape 2wd still looks new underneath! Now if that 4 banger had some power it’d be nice!

I always said when I was doing exhaust in My shop if it doesn't blow thru it's done and good! I live in Ohio and the Flex pipe was a money maker for Me and I had them in stock all the time!

You're right about the Walkers lasting about two years. I've got one customer vehicle that has been back 4 times for a flex pipe replacement. Once that steel mesh starts rusting apart, they are pretty much done for!

Yep, that was an easy one. If I may offer a tip after 20+ yrs mig welding exhaust: When you weld as far as you can on the top on one side, build up a little bump of molten metal, then quickly while it's still molten, go to the other side and weld starting at that bump, you'll be able to see it and know you welded it all across the top. ben/ michigan

Funny enough my f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost broke is flex pipe2 days ago. The fix from ford is replace the flex and muffler as it’s one whole piece. But it’s in back order… so $60 from autozone for a new one and a coupler and I’m back in business.

Having grow up in Midwest and being a mechanic I don’t miss the rust . Moved to west coast in 1976 and the couldn’t believe how long vehicles live rust free. Great vids and long live the automotive repair professionals.

We once had Ford Escape that needed the flex pipe replaced, so go to Speedy Muffler, and they told they do not do that, but they did tell us about a place who does. So we go there, and it is an Industrial strip mall, he takes our car in, we wait outside (it was summertime), and 30 minutes later we had the vehicle back, fixed!

That MIG welder sounded like it was set up exactly perfect. From what I could see of the welds, they were beautiful. I would have trouble being humble if I could do what you do, but I see that I need to remain humble. Very humble.

Eric I retired after 40 years of being a welder in the welding trade. Everything from CWB to Tssa certification.(Canada) Trust me, with your minimum trade knowledge you are better than most trade welders. Don't worry about the arm chair quarterbacks, no explanation necessary.

Having lived up north until I was around 21, I really don’t miss all that rust and having my car rot apart in front of me. I can’t believe a 2019 looks that bad. I have a 2017 Camaro SS and it still looks brand new underneath and all around. I guess it’s another nice thing about living in the south, especially if you have an expensive vehicle

always put SPF 50 or higher sun block on exposed skin next to the arch... i have freckles on both my upper arms now because of second degree sunburn from welding without it...

If it hold and no leaks - ship it. Looks good to me and I’ve put on a few. Back in the day coat hangers and torch was the go to. None of that fancy mig stuff. Love my Miller now.

If it wasn't for "bird turds" or "Booger welds" I'd have no welds at all. I gotta stop using flux core MIG wire and buy some damn CO2/Argon tanks already - those welds were beautiful! Cheers Mr. O!

On another note I purchased one of the Astro 65SL lights from the Amazon some time ago after seeing you using them. Anyway absolutely love it. My only issue is I have almost left it underneath my vehicles many times. (Never Lost it but came close) So be honest Eric how many times have you lost one/almost lost one?

Mr O....I was always find it amusing that you speak to your audience, preemptively. Apparently you have several people who like to make negative comments.. I dont read anyones but mine.(spelling errors only) Ive always thought of your videos were like taking a class. I was always told, "If you have a question, raise your hand", I dont ever remember a teacher telling me that I could openly make stupid comments or that I even had an opinion....lol. I had a 2006 Mazda 6 with the Ford 3.0 L V-6 that in 2016, a few months before I got rid of it developed cracks in the 'crotch' Y-joint and at the flex pipe. A replacement pipe was over $600 and not available. Had a guy replace the flex joint and weld up the crotch Y-joint for $300 cash.

Welds look beautiful Eric. Also I’m quite shocked that a 4 year old vehicle already needs exhaust work. My 1990 bmw’s exhaust only had just a couple holes in it after 30 years. It’s been fixed now but even the original flex pipes are still holding up. They leak a bit but it’s still quiet and that car was in Chicago all it’s life.

Seeing Eric Weld the Exhaust Pipe Brings me Back to the Old Days when we used a Coat Hanger and a Torch to Braze Exhaust Pipe Conn. Together--it would still work but the New Coat Hangers generally have to much anti-rust coatings on them...

I had a 2016 Ford Flex. I had the flex pipe replaced twice during the time I owned it. Ford dealership wanted $1500 to replace the entire pipe assembly. Replacing the flex pipe by a local exhaust shop was around $100.

I'm a little surprised that a four year old Flex needed exhaust work. I drove a 2010 around the salty Motor City for nearly 7 1/2 years without exhaust issues. It had others, believe me.

I replace A LOT of flex pipes at work. The replacements never last as long as the OE flex pipes though.
