Today I'm going to tell you the story of the iconic Ford GT40, a car that marked an era and arouses passions to this day.
The history of the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari is well known, it even became a Hollywood movie (Ford vs Ferrari). The fact that Commendatore Enzo Ferrari refused to sell his company (the Ferrari car factory) to Henry Ford II triggered an ego dispute that culminated in Ford's four consecutive victories at Le Mans in the 1960s.
Much is said about the importance of the Ford GT40 in the history of motorsport and, in fact, the victories in Le Mans were remarkable. But until they reached victory in 1966, a lot of hard work and many problems accompanied the legendary GT40, which became known as “the killer of Ferraris”.
In 2016, Ford officially returned to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the successor to the GT40, a new model created with cutting-edge technologies such as a carbon fiber composite chassis and body and a twin-turbo V6 engine. In the GTE Pro category, the new Ford GT won a fierce dispute against the Ferrari 488 GTE, fifty years after the unforgettable first victory in 1966. Once again, the Ford brand name would be registered in the gallery of champions at the Le Mans circuit.
