Nice video. Regarding the bed noise coming into cab is because you have the rear seat folded down. The rear seat, when up and locked, helps minimize bed and road noise coming into the cab. Otherwise, it's a quiet, tight-fitting, and well sealed cab.

Love the video, I've seen some cool custom bed extending rails that might help with the bed length issue, and I've also heard of people putting some sort of insulating foam rubber at he front of the bed to reduce noise pollution. The all wheel drive is an awesome feature especially getting decent gas mileage. Another thing I've seen people do to increase gas mileage is to reduce the height of the ladder/lumber rack to reduce wind resistance. Great video looking forward to continuing updates 👍

Been eyeing these for a hot minute. As an electrician, I appreciate this video displaying the cargo capacity with actual toolboxes. The little giant fitting in the bed so well sold me along with the folding back seats. Eyeballing those 2x4's I imagine my conduit storage will fit nicely as well on a roof rack and not sticking out too far. Tyvm for the demo. Imma wait patiently on the wait list and get my little base model commuter/weekend warrior/work truck.

As a fellow contractor (IT), I would recommend a bed cap. You can similarly mount items to the rails/bars attached to the top of the cap. It also functions as a "bed cover" as everything inside is enclosed, and also allows you to stack vertically. I'm waiting on my Maverick order to be built, but this is the setup that I use on my Chevy Colorado. I use the DeWalt ToughSystem bins like how you stacked them inside the cab in the back seat, except I do that in the bed under the cap. I have a small 4ft. fiberglass ladder that fits inside the bed, and then my 8ft. gets strapped to the rails of my bed cap (or you could put your Gorilla ladder up there instead). I then use the middle of the back seat (seats not folded down) for a single bin of misc. items that fits between 2 car seats.

My Uncle who was a builder had several full size trucks. His wife had a car but majority of the time he unloaded the truck at the end of a day which allowed him to use the truck for personal reasons without advertising a five finger discount. Every morning he would reload the back of his truck. I think a better solution would have been an enclosed trailer with all the equipment on the sides and the center used for hauling wood. Of course you would have to have property or parking for the enclosed trailer. It should last several truck lifetimes.

That bed noise makes sense - the bed is no longer isolated from the cab with an air gap and frame. Especially with the rear seat folded down - just a thin sheet of bare metal. There's a guy on the Maverick Truck Club who attached some basic soundproofing back there. I'm kind of hoping somebody will offer a rear seat delete kit - one that adds sound insulation and a protective barrier at the rear, while fully removing top and bottom of the rear seats in favor of storage space. For those of us that wanted a single cab Maverick - that would be awesome!

I"m considering one as I've started to offer handyman services as P/T thing (not my reg. job), and believe this would be perfect.. I'm considering a Ridgeline as well for the more classy suv style cabin and longer bed for more floor space, but it's shallow 16" bed makes me wonder if it'll be annoying not to put some typical stuff inside ( i want to have a tonneau cover on it), like my new roller Husky tool box that is approx. 17"H, it would not fit in the back with cover down and would have to put it in the back seat of the cabin, which is fine as you did, and in ridgeline, the seat folds up to allow for things, but kinda prefer to not have to put it there everytime, but only when bed is full with other stuff on occasion. Hmm. hard to guess if the more floor space of the ridgeline or the shorter but higher depth of over 2" more of the maverick will be beneficial or annoying ? Also wondering, if my P/T Handyman thing does get me more calls and I decide to in near future take on more, would I regret the Maverick's small bed ? Also considering a Tacoma 5ft box, which I've always loved, but kinda hate how the 23's are still a bit dated, no real cubby spots and less tie downs, and no slots to put 2x6 to support 4x8 sheets across, or to create a divider for things to not slide around, like maverick and colorad's have.. Colorado, oddly is more $ than a Tacoma and not as reliable as any of these above I'm considering.... So... I'm also considering a 15-19 Frontier king cab with 6ft bed and it being a 2nd vehicle and keeping my Stinger GT for daily driver and Frontier to only be winter and work stuff use.. Hmm... I'm driving myself crazy analyzing and trying to decide. I'm sure even though larger items can be delivered, there will be many times to go and pick up a few sheets of this or that and some 8-10' studs, etc.. and having a bit longer would be better. I guess depends on if I only take on small handyman stuff or others. I prefer the 2 vehicle way, as I love my stinger... Maverick and Ridgeline can be dual purpose, but Tacoma not so much a bus. car, as it's too high and bumpier/bouncy ride.... 😵💫😵💫

Well upholstery was definitely a thought that made me want to fold them down for sure. Additionally I really wanted to be sure that I had room for the boxes laterally. How well are those racks working with the Maverick? That’s a pretty small bed overall when you start tossing all your work gear in it. Then adding lumber to the mix. Are those racks up to the job and are they worth the cost? I currently drive a Ram Promaster City van, (the 5 passenger wagon version) and it is surprisingly versatile and capable as an all around use vehicle. It is somewhat surprising what all you can put in it. My biggest gripe is I cannot flip the right passenger seat forward to stuff longer boards in the van. If the Maverick had a mid gate option, it would greatly enhance the cargo box usefulness. at the end of the day, the cargo van like the ford transit is incredibly useful as a utility vehicle. But they are pricy. And that is why the Maverick is also a great fit where you don’t need the size and expense of a full size van. To bad the re emerging promising compact van market died a quick death. I hope the compact pickup market for vehicles like the Maverick flourishes.

Honestly the rack is incredible. I trimmed it down to about 4 inches above the height of my roof and it’s so simple to just load up. I’ve put like 1200lbs of lumber on there. I’m adding the same racks on my maverick and also one roof rack at front roof for long ladders and materials. I think this should solve that problem.

@@markgosser9578 : same problem. They make a roof rack for the cab, or are you building one?

@@drewthompson7457 no, I’m going to buy a roof rack. By the time I get my maverick there should be more to choose from.

Great job on the shade, that looks sweet! I have two questions for you about the truck - First, do you think that you experienced more noise from the bed because the seats were folded and they act as sound deadening when upright? And I totally get that for a general contractor, it might be a bit too small, but do you think it would be adequate for a homeowner who already has tools in the garage?
@bootlace96

Guaranteed, there’s no insulation or sound deadening back there other than the rear seats (I put sound deadening mat back there for my audio install and it makes a huge difference in bed/outside sounds with the seat down)

Hey Justin! I would say that the seats being up in the back would definitely help, but my tundra has two separate metal walls with an inch and a half gap between them. So I think that really helps break up the noise but honestly it’s not too bad

To answer your second question: if you have a garage, and don’t have to bring your entire garage with u every day-you’ll have absolutely no trouble at all. I only run into issues when I’ve got my 4-7 tool boxes, table saw, 12 inch chop saw, and my saw horses and just the whole shebang. But for most projects I only need my tool boxes and stuff. For that stuff it’s totally fine

I bet you could build yourself an extension that allows you to cage up 4x8. much like they make convervters for trailers to have sides. as long as you arent trying to put 2000 lbs up there. etc. 95% of the time, its inside your bed. 5% of the time its extended to take room of of sheetrock and mud buckets

I’m considering one myself. For 21-2k, it’s honestly a steal for what it does, and the support Ford gives it in terms of modifications and accessories

Hello, if you need more space why don't you build a big shelf by putting a piece of plywood between the box and your rack use that empty space, just an idea.

If the Ford mavericks too small for you try honda ridgeline. bigger but not too big. Biggest cab and bed for midsize trucks. I have a 2019 and I love it.

This is a weather tech rack from Home Depot! 350$ I actually did. Finished build out on the rack and made a fully lockable top. I’m about to post a video showing how to do that soon!

My wife loves hers for her flower delivery service. The gas millage is awesome. The ride is a little choppy and noisy but other than that she loves it.

I have an SUV. This is looking like it's replacement. Plywood is a pain with the SUV, and this, with the tailgate at the half way position will give about 6 ft of support for a 4x8. A half yard of soil in this will be easier than the SUV. It will also tow my boat, and fit in the garage along with my workshop. And reasonable fuel economy. But I can also rent a van a few times a year for big stuff pretty cheaply too.
