However, time will tell how the Santa Cruz holds up to towing weights nearly 5000 pounds with it’s new liquid cooled double clutch transmission and cooling system. I like the Maverick so much I have one on order. It can do 99% of what I need a pick up for. If you want to tow a travel trailer do not buy this vehicle, buy a full size or heavy duty truck. While the Maverick and mid-size trucks can handle their tow rating, you don’t want to be in one when you’re in an open area and crosswinds hit you. Gasoline is a little over 6 lbs per galln and the Maverick will hold 16 gallons so that's 100 lbs. A lot of people who are pullng a trailer will toss a couple 5 gallon cans in the back to assist with the driving range on a tank, which when towing is not much over 200 miles. So you're really pushing it to use a trailer like this. In our experience, the problem with towing with a small truck is braking (also mentioned by others), cross winds, and being passed by semi trucks, especially on twisty roads. You really dont want a pucker experience whe towing a trailer.

Got tired of simply driving a massive HD through tons of traffic and parking it. Sold the camper and simply moved on, sad to say, most people who drive bigger or larger trucks, really don’t need them… just for show… when are people going to wake up and realize, that it’s a big waste of money if your not working that truck or pulling on a constant basis. Max tongue weight is 400 lbs, per Ford, so at 500 lbs you're 100 lbs over your max tongue weight. This is why max tow weight is such a meaningless number. The J2807 test is done with a 10 percent tongue weight trailer, whereas most travel trailers are 13 to 14 percent on the tongue, so your real world max tow weight is way under 4000 lbs when pulling a travel trailer. Also, Ford limits frontal area to 40 sq ft, and that trailer is way more than that, so another limitation that was exceeded.

Well put, max tow numbers should be done at 15% tongue weight.

Thank you for making this video. I’m in the process of researching the best upgrade to my Escape. The goal is to tow a slightly larger camper. I’m between the Ford Maverick or the Ranger. You’re attention to tow capacity and payload is greatly appreciated. Keep up the great job. Note, this is my 1st video of yours I have seen. I will be checking others on your channel.

Correct. It's made for people who want good gas mileage that don't need to tow over 4K. It's more sensible than the idiots that pay 60K+ for a 17mpg half ton and they never pull anything with it.

I think Maverick is able to tow . Dose towing package has lower axcel ratio higher number. What I saw on film it tows well. But why can't extendable mirrors be included in towing package like super duty Fords??? With turbo one should change oil every 5000 miles or 8000 km with proper grade and not store brand oil. Try to use motor craft oil and filter. Oil is cheap when compared to repairs

So pulling at (near) max capacity it’s getting 11-12 MPG? I like how he says “it just about doubles” but he leaves out that it just about doubles (in fuel consumption.)

Conservative Numbers--- Driver and Passenger combined weight 400lbs plus empty Tounge weight of 500lbs as shown only about 350lbs left of payload available... Kinda cutting it close for real world use But, great way to show the top end of towing availability. 👍

Although I wouldn't want to tow anything with a (basically) front-wheel-drive vehicle, I was impressed with how well this vehicle handles the trailer.

huh? you can tow your trailer but you can't have people or any gear or water or you're overweight, you're also overweight on that hitch acorrding to Ford, max is 400 lbs. buy a real truck and skip the headaches, I've been through it all. If you're in an accident the insurance company will weigh all the stuff and look at the specs

if you need to tow anything that weighs more than 1000 pounds, buy a truck. if you need to haul stuff, buy a pickup. this ain't rocket science. And a $36k pickup truck is insane.

Tongue weight max spec is 500 lbs. 4K is stretching it considering the wind drag of the large trailer. Hope you are not in front of me if cresting a high mountain pass.

Glad to see the compact truck market back, but I got my 2018 f150 supercab 4x4 with the 3.3 v6 & 3.73 gears with the 302 a XLT package for 30,000$ which has almost everything a lariat has minus the leather. I have 55,000 miles now I got it with 2000 miles and I’m averaging 22 mpg combined and I pull 5000 lbs with it a couple times a week when I’m Towing I average around 15/16 Mpg. I work in construction so I pull small trailers loaded with various construction materials…36,000$ for a compact truck is insane I know it has the all the options but still that’s outrageous…I think the best bang for the buck is the f150s with the V6 you can get them with all the options and it still does what most people need it to do…I used to have a 2001 & a 2005 with the 5.4 but my 3.3 v6 feels way more powerful towing than those 5.4s ever did and I really liked the 5.4
