While I do love the 69 best, this is a bad ass Mustang as well. The first Mustang I ever saw that made my haw drop was one of these. Don't know if it was 71, 72 or 73 but it was yellow (which I don't like yellow). I was 19 and working at Disney World in FL and in the parking garage for employees I was walking around on break and saw that Mustang and was completely blown away. One day I plan on owning a 69, a 67 and one of these. Just gotta make my money first

@@mickden3155 Cool. I miss my 1971 and 1973 Mach 1's. If you remove the carbon trap from your upper front intake duct it will return up to 10 crank horsepower. Ford started installing them in Mustangs in 2022. 2018 to 2021 GT's had 460 horsepower. 2022 to 2023 GT's 450. I have a 2017 GT Premium Plus 401A with a manual and black accent package and separate that year black roof option. It has a Roush cold air intake, Roush axle back exhaust, and Roush tune which was a moderately noticable improvement. It was worth the money. If you have a Premium trim you can place it in Sport+ mode and use 93 octane fuel to achieve the full factory power rating. My 2017 came with 435 HP yet Roush stated in writing that it has 480 HP now with my Roush Level 2 Power Pack. Beechmont Ford Performance in Cincinnati installed it for me when I purchased the car new from them. That way it was covered by the Ford and dealership warranties.

Beautiful Mustang. Couple questions. 1.Why the 71’-72’ stripe theme ? 2.Is this an original Mach 1 ? I’m missing the three cluster gauge unit ( Oil,Amp,Temp.)located above the radio. Has a small thin plate where the cluster normally is.The only cars I have seen with this 1” and about 6” long plate we’re the regular and Grande Mustangs.

...folks for the matter of possible correctness... i do not belive or think .... this car was ... a 1973 model. it was possibly.... at the latest a 1972 model. i've owned (3) 1973 mach ones myself back in the day... 2 in 1973/74 and 1... i got later in 1980... and what makes them 1973's was the striping. the striping on the 1973 model was a more of a very wide straight line on both sides of the car from front to back... this car shown here has the thin stripe lines that were installed on 1971 and 1972 models only. the wider soild line stripe was the 100% differential from the 1971/72 models... but what is very confusing though is.... the front end / grill area on this car shown... does look like the 1973 front end of mustangs for that year...??? this is very puzzling. plus... the manuf. plate on the door panel shown manuf. in dec.1972... which in theory would be produced in time for a 1973 model...??? so maybe whoever owns in - in getting it restored... used the incorrect side and across the trunk area striping. (the rear striping on a 1973 model had the words "mach one" written within the stripe.) this car shown here in this video and all 1971/72 models only had a straight thin line - with no writing. so perhaps the owner got the wrong / incorrect striping package for this car...??? so if anyone gets a chance... search up a picture of a true to form real 1973 mustang mach one.... with ram air.... there you will see what i am talking about....

Why does everyone take a sportsroof, and make it into a Mach1? The stripes are from a '71-'72 Mach1, the gloss black hood is horrible, ram air 351 means nothing unless there has been serious engine work done, as the'72 and later models had 8-1 compression, and horsepower suffered.

Hi Mike they ran approx 15.1 down the quarter in stock form your mate might have had something wrong but as you said they wern't the fastest 266HP only the 71 Boss and72 HO were anything to really rave about stock .Mine isn't stock anymore it has a high lift hydraulic cam and a 11-1 compression ratio not the 9.0-1Factory and 40 thou bore it's no slouch and a properly jetted 650cfm Holley not the 715 cfm4300d motorcraft carb they origonally had on them . Mick W your car is sharp and I was not trying to run it down or anything like that, I'm a Ford guy but I also realize that sometimes back in the 60s and early 70s Ford detuned there engines from the factory and you had to work on them to get them where they should have been in stock form.

sounds like your friends car was just a run of the mill a 351c 2v with a 2.75 geared rear NOT a 351cj/4v. 1973 hot rod test of a mustang with a 351cj/4spd and 3.91's got 14.40's at 94 mph, 3.91's never did make the final option sheet from ford, but that wouldn't stop a owner from swappin them in. the mustangs 351cj/4v was rated at 266 net hp, rated the old gross hp way that would have been over 300 hp and this was with only 8.0-1 compression. the 454 in 73 only had 245 hp. same for the 73 z28's hottest 350. So ford bested both high perf options from chevy in hp. Like I said, keep in mind the drag race friendly lower gearing was pretty much off the table from the factory in 73. ford only offered a 3.25 and 3.50 gear for the 351c 4v/cj engine when they really needed 3.91's and steeper to wake them up. the cam timin was retarded for emissions, lazier advance curve, and a few other things mandated by the govt at the time to meet the emissions standards. all easily cured by the owner. The heads had the same port size as the earlier 351c 4v heads just in 73/74 they used the 2v sized 2.04 intake valve which actually improved low lift flow over the larger 2.19 intake valved heads. This was done to try and pep up the lower rpm power of the 351c 4v. On a side note ford had a truly muscular engine for 73 but kept it for the cop cars only. The 1973 460 police interceptor motor would have been the engine to really wake up the mustang and torinos of the time. it had around 265-280 hp but also had around 500 ft lbs of tq. performance wasn't dead from any of the automakers in 73, was just tougher to order at the dealers and required a few owner tweaks to really wake them up.
@mikeburks9641
5 жыл бұрын
BILL WILLIAMSON sounds like you really know your Ford' . yes I know that these engines in 73 needed to be woke up and they had HP potential. love my fords, lots of respect for Mopar,. I try to respect GM but honestly they have always been overated especially Chevy.glidden put it on them back in the day with the Cleveland fords, they couldn't beat him so they accused him of cheating. there has been times down through the years when Chevy was on top of the curve and winning a lot and I will give them their due but they won't do the same, when they were getting beat they always had to have an excuse, that's why I really never cared for them.
