The other significant mid-life upgrade that aids the Ranger’s off-road credentials is that traction control stays active on the front axle when the rear differential lock is engaged.

@ThatOtherMotoringShow
8 жыл бұрын
Look I'm not going to lie, you can't expect family saloon like comfort from a pick up, simply due to the nature of the suspension setup. That being said there is plenty of legroom for normal sized adults and the car copes better than most other pickups we've tested on normal roads. Come to think of it I'd say its closet rival is actually the latest Isuzu KB in terms of comfort. It's certainly better than the previous model Hilux.

I'm hoping to grab the new Ranger when it comes to the states, I've owned several of the previous gen. It always seems like you could thrash the Ranger and never actually hurt it. So I'm in the US and they're bringing the ranger back here after almost 15 years and its nice to see what they've done with it since it became exclusively foreign vehicle. Also.... I laughed my rear end off over the length complaint, have you ever driven a full-size F-150 Raptor or not, or an Expedition? Those things have at least a 18 inches at minimum on that thing.

Nice review. I just watched your more recent video review of the new hilux. It's funny to see how your views changed between the two cars during that video. You couldn't split them for ability and ride and you much preferred the interior of the hilux. That was a big turnaround from the standpoint you went in with. Don't know how you got the car to "beep" on locking and unlocking by the way.
@MilesDownard
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, we drove the Ranger before having driven the new Hilux. So out comparison's were at that stage all against the old Toyota. The new Hilux is a much better vehicle and I think our mindset reflects that in the Hilux video. It's really a tough one to call between the two.
@tonesbones502
7 жыл бұрын
I gathered that, they are both great buckies, I've just driven them both. I will probably go the toyota because of reputation for reliability. Also the interior is nicer and the stereo is much more clear and more powerful. BTW I notice your SA model hilux is very different to our Australian, ours has different wheels, lights and no beeps! Thanks for the great reviews, it really helps.
@MilesDownard
7 жыл бұрын
Mega King Grass thanks man appreciate the feedback. I'm sure you'll be more than happy with the Hilux! Not sure what it's like in Australia but here in SA the Toyota has a better resale value which is a big driver for a lot of buyers.

Yeah same here, strong resale. Like your country you don't muck around out in the bush. Most outback farmers only drive Toyotas and when I told my mechanic I was decided between the two he said "buy the Toyota". Enough said, new 2017 model coming my way. Keep up the good work.

We actually found the gearbox really strong, particularly on a day to day basis around town. Gets going really quickly with almost no lag, unlike the new generation of Land Rover gearboxes. Unfortunately we only got the car for a week so as to the long term reliability I'm afraid we can't say!

Sorry guys, but I believe that was a poor review. No real comparisons to other bakkie's available in South Africa. If you can't remember which bakkie's you've previously tested how can you attest to the fact that this is better than the rest of them. The VW Amarok is known world wide as the most road car like cabin and one of the better ride comforts. You complain about the length, is that because you prefer the Triton's dimensions or is that you never have owned a bakkie before that this vehicle feels big. You guys should take the new Toyota out for a spin. I believe you will find the ride comfort and engine response better than the Ranger. Lastly, I don't like the swearing in the last section. That can be edited out. Not very professional at all. Personally, I am looking at buying a new Ranger soon and like the bakkie very much. I don't break my vehicles on 4x4 off-road courses but use the vehicle for what it was built for. I.E. my bakkie will see some beautiful interesting places in South Africa off the tar road. Good luck with your next review.
@NickHodgson42
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Rory. Quite honestly we've only reviewed a handful of bakkie's in this proper off-road environment and we don't feel it's fair to guess at what others are like if we haven't put them to a similar test. The VW Amarok is one of those we haven't had for example. We shall be getting the new Hilux at a later stage, something I'm personally quite looking forward to as it seems Toyota has made quite a step forward with it, but that remains to be seen. From the length point of view, it was more a comment on double cab bakkies in general, as Miles points out, but something nevertheless that someone who hasn't ever owned a double cab surely needs to consider before buying don't you think? Lastly I'm not sure where the swearing was in the last section? We definitely try to keep such language out of our videos, but mistakes do happen from time to time! I definitely think the Ford Ranger overall is quite an incredible vehicle and have no doubt you'll love every minute of your travels!
