@pingskills
7 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of following through, you can still use your wrist to try and get some more spin. The key to generating more spin is a fast brushing contact, so however you achieve this you will get spin, but it's also about being consistent!

Jeff is a bulletproof chopper! What is the optimal point to chop the ball: top of the bounce, start of descending or close to the floor? I feel like it is extremely difficult to chop before the ball starts to fall, but maybe I am doing something else wrong.
@johnng1078
Жыл бұрын
looks like its descending in the video, but i think you can do it from the apex till it is near the floor. I haven't seen anyone do it when its ascending, maybe someone can invent this new technique. The other really tricky thing is to watch for the opponents topspin level, as this will affect the trajectory of ball.

Well done on becoming School Champion! As for the bats we recommend some on our website - www.pingskills.com/table-tennis-store/ There are of course lots of good options. As you get more serious about table tennis you should think about a custom bat where you pick the blade and the rubbers separately. Then when the rubbers wear out you can replace them and keep the blade. Keep up the good work!

I'd like to add one thing I think is a bit important, probably most know this (beginner mistake maybe?), but it's VERY important for the thumb and index finger to be in sync, even more on the chop than other strokes I personally believe. By Synced I mean they compliment each other on each side, if one of your fingers come up too high or low away from each other (on each side), the chop will become much harder to do. So just, consider checking your grip if you are having a hard time.

Alois, as you are a left hander, I'd like to ask some tips to step up the lefty game, because I'm left handed too. How can I use being left handed to my advantage?
@pingskills
7 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's Jeff here. I think that because you play more right handers you are more used to playing against them then they are against you, so that is an advantage of some sort. Alois mainly answers the ask the coach questions on the PingSkills site so you can ask him a question there to get some more information. I think if your right handed opponent has a weak backhand then you can play wide to his forehand and the expose his backhand!

my coach is a old time world champion defender and no hate to any of the skills, tips, tricks presented in this video but from my experience and learning you never go straight down on a chop, you always hit the underside of the ball, you can go downwards more or forwards more on a chop but never do you go straight down. and when you move your hand all the way to the left knee, it can easily cause the ball to fly out to the left and drags out the stroke. Another point is the timing, his chop is way too fast, you usually wait for the ball reach table level and then follow through with the motion into the ball.

Tenergy is much better for aggressive play using topspin strokes. If you like to attack mainly then with practice you can do a few chops with it for sure. If you want to play mainly chops then I would suggest going for a slower more defensive rubber. What style do you want to play?

As a penhold player, is there any reason I should be using the penhold blade over the shakehand ones? I'm not the biggest fan of the wood on the backhand side especially since I like twiddling between inverted rubbers and short pips and I can't a whole lot of information about the subject.
@pingskills

Not really. The biggest reason is that the handle is normally shorter which is often more comfortable. You can still put rubber on the back of most penhold blades so you can twiddle.

is a short pip rubber required for chop or any regular rubber works? also i think alois can maybe do a better chop than jeff
@pingskills

You can use any rubber for chopping. Most choppers use normal (inverted) rubber on their forehands so they can still attack effectively. A lot of choppers do use long pimples on the backhand however.

It is a different variation. The backspin will hit the opponents bat and go down so it makes it harder to attack than a ball without backspin.

Hey Alois I wanted to ask this but why is it that when I chop the ball sometimes didn't generate high spin ( Longpips )

Good question. If you are using long pimples then the amount of spin you get on your chops depends quite a bit on how much topspin your opponent has put on their stroke.

what i meant is to grab the bat tightly like i'm gonna punch someone rather than relaxing it would that be useful for a shot in terms of power or even spin ? and i'm sorry for the confusion

Ah I see. I think it's better to hold the bat with a fairly light grip. If you tense up to much it tends to tighten up all of your arm and shoulders which ends up reduces the speed you can swing the bat. I have a question, can you use penhold using a shakehand racket?

Yes you can. The penhold blades tend to be a little more comfortable though as they are specially designed for penholders.

Tenergy certainly is a very good rubber. I'm using the PingSkills Touch with Xiom Vega Pro.
