The Forest Rumbler is a backyard wooden roller coaster located in Atlanta, Texas.
The coaster is 7’ tall at its highest point, 155’, and zips along at nearly 15 mph!
The tracks are constructed identically to those of a traditional wooden roller coaster, consisting of stacked laminates. The supports also parallel those of a traditional woodie: Grounded posts, ledger, cross bracing, and footers.
The rails are lined with 4” wide steel
Strips, coupled with steel road wheels minimize friction significantly, allowing for maximal speed.
The cart is constructed of wood and steel, and weighs in excess of 100 lbs, and is designed to carry several hundred pounds.
Also, the nearly 6”-thick tracks allow for a weight limit in the “thousands” of pounds! So, the Forest Rumbler is “fluff friendly,” so that people of all sizes can enjoy the ride.
**INTERESTING FACTS**
The FR has yielded over 3,000 rides.
Over 2,200 board-feet of southern yellow pine were used to build the tracks alone.
Close to 15,000 screws were used to construct the tracks.
The cart races at nearly 15 mph, clearing the entire circuit in 9 seconds.
The angles of the drops are identical to the now-defunct Comet Jr. (State Fair of Texas).
The roar of the coaster can be heard indoors (100 ft away) with the doors and windows closed and the television turned on. 😅
