If there is one major thing I have learned from trading forex, it is that you should find your own way. Much of trading is psychological and what works for one person doesn't for another. I have seen some traders do very well off what is railed against on this channel. People love to tell you trading is impossible and you will never achieve success unless you go their way or method. It's like anything else worth doing. The more you learn the better you get if you can discipline yourself to apply your learning. Also, never buy anything from anyone who can not do a live trade demo for you or show you proof of their trading success.

The Aroon is one of the first indicators I'm trying in my first demo account. What I'm finding easy to read off of it is both the trend and the strength of the trend based on where the cross is (I would venture to say a long signal would have to be both an up ove down cross and up is above 50). Maybe feeling good just because it's early days.

The big big reason why some of these confirmation indicators will prevent you trading (or staying in good trend) when big banks are stepping in: For example during a strong uptrend, there will be small pullbacks. That's when the crowd starts to be extremely net short (They thought they catched the top). And boom big banks come in and take price violently upward. A good confirmation indicator would stay long during this period.

I started the process of learning to trade around 6 months ago and I have been interested in forex trading, specifically, for around 4 of those 6 months. This information definitely has helped me get my footing, and I find it good that you do not focus on trading strategies, like so many of the other trading channels I have found do, but you delve in-depth into money management and risk management; which is where I was falling short a lot of the time. These two factors are, in my opinion, the most important parts of becoming a trader, in any type of tradable security. Great channel, keep up the good work, and greetings from sunny Scotland. 🏴👍

@No Nonsense Forex I have checked all of your videos except your podcasts, my question is in regards to the "success rate" percentagewise of indicators after conducting a "manual" win/loss ratio backtest and forward test, if I remember correctly the "confirmation" indicators should have at least a 60% and upwards win rate, what about the Baseline, the Exit indicator, and the Volume or Volatility indicator?, you mention to use indicators that are complete "killers" what is their success rate?. Lots of indicators are in the 50-60 % range, I feel having some notion of this type of data can substantially help in saving time scanning for good indicators.Thank you.

one cold hard fact about already drawn chart indicators, the drawn lines are not the same as the live lines. meaning, the chart indicators look more useful after having been drawn, the flow is there for the static price history. live trading, the price is moving around like a mexican jumping bean, thus the challenges of trading.

You are not currently taking questions for the podcast, so I'll ask here. I have been testing out a couple of confirmation indicators, among which there is the Aroon up and down. I've had great results by setting it at 21 periods, after testing on 10 pairs over a period of two years. Good, but I have noticed something. Most of the trades end up being part of a large trend. Following your advice, I assumed to be scaling out based on ATR. Now, what happens if I get another signal for the same trend, but my half position is still running? Do I open another trade going in the same direction? I know you said you should consider risk per currency, so I shouldn't, but who cares at that point? My half position is already running after the other half reached 1ATR, so my risk is 0.

@@carrcossa It's still huge. Say the EUR/USD at 1HR is 100 points. Using VP's calcs, If I was trading $2, my stop loss would be -$2 ~ -$2.5 At the 1D chart, the ATR shows 400 points. so now my stop loss for $2 would be -$4 ~ -$4.5 Do you see the problem here? My 2% risk suddenly jumped to 4%. I don't think anyone is ready to lose so much trading so little. The only way to set a stop-loss is to risk what you can afford to lose. If you trade $2 ~ $500, be prepped to lose it and set your max stop-loss only up to there.

I backtested this Aroon Up and Down 3 years with default setting of 14 and tried 21 and also tested only taking signals above 50% and 70% horizontal lines and my results were nowhere near ~60%. I followed the instructions you gave with green bullish and red bearish (although my default color was blue not green). With many more indicators to test ahead of me I really want to make sure I got the logic correct on this. What am I missing? When I dig online to find explanations of this there is a lot of conflicting info due to the 3 variations you mentioned. I'm almost to the point where I'm going to buy Chande's book. Please help and thanks for all you do!

find a different 2 line cross indicator, try a DIDI indictor. VP mentions aroon up and down is not that great, even though its top 100 does not mean to go and use it. Looks like you did some testing on it and it did not give you great results which indicates that you should go and test others that perform better. You got the logic correct on the 2 line cross indicator, if there is a cross and red goes up its a short if there is a cross and green goes up its a long. It gets frustrating sometimes when testing, what i do is stop for a day and take a brake.
@tinkertanner165

I personally find the Aroon up/down to be an extremely good indicator with the right settings, the signals have proven to be spot on for me, especially if there is confluence across the algorithm. If there is no confluence I simply don't trade as there are many pairs to analyze and there's always tomorrow. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE IN A TRADE, you cant force an indicator to work, cant will it into a trade and expect a positive outcome. Backtesting can inadvertently cause you to misunderstand an indicator and not see the whole picture because you test them in a trade you normally would not have taken and vice versa, meaning... did you back test the Aroon all by itself? or did you test it as part of your whole system? It makes a difference. Did you forward test? Also I don't know what horizontal lines you're talking about. As for the 3 variations? Aroon Up/down is Aroon up/down. Don't use an Aroon that is NOT ----->Up/DownWithout blatantly telling you what settings to use, don't use the default one, and "21" was even worse, it will get you in/out of trades too late which can cause pip loss from not gaining as much pips as you should have, and consequently cause you to lose pips you've already gained. granted you're in a winning trade. I wish you the best.

thank you so much for the information that you give us to be a better traders,i really appreciate it, something that it works for me most of the time, and i wanted to share with you guys, my eyes are my first indicator i make sure that the price is above sma200 than i draw my support line fron left to right ,the lower price in few days behind from the price at the moment than , i wait that the price crosess my support line below and than i make sure price go back above support line and i place an entry price long, for me that means that the price doesn't wanted to keep going down so i buy for long entry and than i place an stop loss order below my support line in case price doesn't want to go long i do my risk management like that , i hope you understand what i mean again i really appreciate all the information you give us in all your videos
