Have you looked closely at your knives? @nwcutlery broke down the differences for us between German Forged knives and German Stamped knives. There are subtle differences in how German knives are manufactured, and you may already know these helpful tidbits, but if not, read on! And tag someone who needs to know this ⬇️
🔪 MANUFACTURING
Stamped knives are cut from large sheets of steel using a machine, like a cookie-cutter, but forged knives are made with a single piece of steel that is heated and shaped precisely with hammering.
🔪CONSTRUCTION
Stamped knives are thinner and lighter, And they don't have a bolster. BUT Forged knives DO, this adds weight and balance to the knife. The tang (which is the part of the blade that extends into the handle) is also visible on forged knives
🔪BLADE PROPERTIES
Stamped knife blades are more flexible and softer, making them easier to sharpen but more susceptible to dulling. Forged knife blades tend to have a thicker, heavier blade, with denser steel, so they have better edge retention and durability for heavy use.
