I really irritates me, that you get told, when you first start, that you need cover every surface on the model, when your sitting here an basically ruins every method I've been told to do, when your painting. Nothing is smooth, its all a mix of colors, and i can basically just slap some paint on the model with a sponge, if i have a little understanding of where projectiles or dust often hit the armor. And yet i know its because of years of experience that your able to do it so well and so fast. I could have done so much with a lot less training, if i was a model could/should look like this. I might be due to popularyty over time... but alas... very nice vid... can´t wait to do this on my marines too.. what's a good base color for chips/scratches, to icy blue marines?.. my guess is silver or white, with a darker tone upper corner.

it would look more realistic when the area of the purple and red on the heat dispenser is smaller, the temperature range to make metal purple is so little that it turns realy fast from yellow to blue. and red is almost imposible. as a watchmaker iam talking from experiance :D
@stormycatmink

Nice job on the heat treatment. Most people get it backwayrds. With flamers it's a bit simpler since the hottest part is at the muzzle, but things like melta guns will be hotter on the inside where the beam is emitted inside the barrel, not the exit point (where the beam would be coolest, relatively speaking). Like in the image references you showed, it's more blue and violet on the engine side of the exhaust, not the exit side. Awesome cool green tone and freehand, too. Love the look. I've always liked the Salamanders, but so many go for a yellowish green, a color I'm really not fond of on a vehicle. Looks amazing.

That stippling technique really give miniatures an very distinctive and interesting look. Though I like much more the method you used with the Blade Guard Dark Angel. Furthermore I would love to see you painting a Space Wolf. For once I couldn't find any video of you ever painting one and secondly the fur, trinkets, totems, ornaments, tons of details, etc. might actually be a challenge, if taken time and care ofc. So give it a try and why not go for the big Great Wolf himself? He is one of THE heroes of the Imperium, the only Marine known of ever beating a Demon Primarch in close combat (Magnus), Logan Grimnar.

Really liked this Salamender dude. Flamer did give the vibe. Would love to see some grim.. Alpha Legion accent. It's so 'top secret shit' it's hard to figure out one, so we have a challenge - free hand scales are out of the picture, too obvious. Maybe a lone specialist like Warpsmith, Apothecary or some sneaky Infiltrator/Assassin. Primaris model would work for that - as everybody(noone) knows, AL got the upgraded gene seed taken from RavenGuard and could already infiltrated any chapter.

Loved the breakdown of the steps and why. Truly nice for me as a Salamander to see it done. Usually go with Caliban Green for the 'under' armour and Warpstone Glow for the 'plates' with highlights done with Moot Green or Tesseract Glow as it matches almost to the Moot. Also gives the benefit to make it a nice use when I want to use the zenithal I put on to guide me for lighting. I will use your method for the flamers though, I use a bronze metallic, Magos Purple and Grey Knights Steel to get the effect but it's a pain to do most of the time. Thank you for the showing of it :D

This is great - and thanks for the hint of dark reds on blacks. I have a primed and pendind Death Company Dreadnought and still working on the colours for the off-black areas. Was thinking colder blues in the highlights and edges; the red would be interesting in the recesses. One question for the broad armour/battle damage/grimdark/primer. Would it make sense to paint the "non damaged" green areas in , and then use the sponge with browns for chipped areas? The difference in this order is that the recesses are still mostly green, but all the edge chipping would show the brown. Or maybe the shown order works best because the brown in the edges is from chipping, the brown in the recesses is just shading. Anyway, thanks for this!

Heavily weathered isn't how I usually paint my models. I always envisioned marines as people who'd keep their equipment in pristine condition if possible. The look definitely works here though. This guy looks like he's been roasting heretics/xenos/traitors for days with no time for breaks. The sponged on technique is great for making things look worn down. The real star of the show is the heat distortion on that flamer though. Stuff looks really good.

Actually using metal for edge distressing makes sense even though "ceramite" isn't technically metal I doubt space marine armor would just be paint over ceramite. Real world vehicles and machinery have layers of primer, laquers and heat resistant materials, nickel plating, etc between the top layer of paint and the base material. I imagine space marine armor would be the same. Isn't asbestos dark and shiny?
