I ordered one of these this morning and now I see the video on how you make them. You have a new admirer in me and I look forward to working with this knife. Keep up the good work.

really like the look of your hammers! would like to get one sometime in the future but right now trying to save for something better than a transport truck leafspring as an anvil and hand files for grinding. but the important part to me is that I am able to get out and forge! learning alot from your vids! thanks for sharing!

Really enjoyable video and pretty informative for a newer blacksmith like myself. I also like the choice of footwear, I wear my old winter issue when I'm forging -- broken in from so many ruck marches lol. #SecondToNone

I just discovered your channel and man it's quite nice ! Your videos are very interesting, no hours of forging or grinding which can be boring to watch, you don't talk a lot, you say what needs to be said and you go straight to the point, I like that a lot Although I prefer neat looking and hand sanded blades, this rough look (belt grinder finish) may just be your style 😉 Anyway, nice video and nice channel, you definetely got yourself a new subscriber P.S. : I'm also doing knife making on my channel by the way 😉

Seriously, this. The work our man here can do in one heat would take me three to five heats with my little charcoal forge, 12 pound railroad track anvil, and 4 pound hammer.

nice knife John loving the channel. A question about the hammers, can you tell us what kind of hammer your using first and what is a dog face hammer?
@OldHickoryForge
6 жыл бұрын
Odin All Father the first hammer is a cross peen. The dogs head hammer is also know as a Japanese style hammer or a blade Smith’s hammer. The weight is more forward instead of centered and it naturally falls at an angle rather than parallel to the face of the anvil and it makes drawing down bevels a bit easier

Hey man I was curious about this way of tempering the blade... normally I use a kitchen oven 2 cycles of 450 degrees for 1.5 hours each time. If doing it the way you did in the video do you just hold it until you get that nice straw color?? Seems a lot faster than the oven way lol. Is their any advantages to using the oven since it soaks linger or is it not so much a time thing as it is just getting it to the right temp and color? Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated!!
@OldHickoryForge

Jonathon Goss oven is good because you’ll get consistent results. Draw tempering like this will accomplish the same thing but it’s very easy to over do. If you can get it down packed it will save you a lot of time. But it is riskier.
