I like mine but still want a 20 ton press. Good value for the money. Welded in one heat- WOW

Thank you for your review! I have been on and off the fence about buying one of these, and thanks to your endorsement I am now leaning in the direction of giving Coal Ironworks a call.

I like my 12 ton, built a nice stand with 2 in angle iron and made a foot control. The press now comes with slotted dies so you only need to loosen the bolts and slide the dies out

I remember fishing on the Yukon near Galena Alaska in the summer. 1am in the morning and the sky was just like you said, like blue skies and a low sun. Fishing was great too.

Damn, that little 12 ton press works damn good for the size. Coal Forge has done a good job on these.

I know this video is a year old but I think it’s pretty cool that you’re in Alaska too and I got the same press about the same time as you did. You may have already found a solution by now but the way I got around the issue with swapping dies is by cutting and turning the holes into notches. Just loosen up the bolts and slide the dies in and out as needed. I believe Coal Ironworks actually sells and supplies the dies with the notches cut out instead of holes now.

Just ordered one yesterday, was going to get the 16 but it couldn't be delivered to my shop. Excited to get it in the new shop.

Unless Coal Iron has changed the cylinder to 3.5" it's only a 9 ton press.

Been debating on this or the 16 ton. Think this one would be the better choice for now. Thanks man

Great video and I am curious though, couldn't you weld some brackets on the upper and lower of your forge with keepers on one side to keep the dies in place? Also just an observation but I swear I keep waiting for your overhead storage to come crashing down with that much of a bow in those boards lol

A couple questionss 1). Do you set the welds with a hammer first or go straight to the press? 2). I understand fluxing the sides and ends where all the layers are exposed, but what is the benefit in fluxing the top?
@HeavyForge

1. Press 2. To see it start to bubble and move around. Then I know I’m at the right temp. I don’t use flux anymore on Damascus billets as I’ve gotten much better since this video.

that thing looks bitchin... would you need to make an additional setup for sliding the dies in and out? couldn't you just carefully cut a channel into the dies such that instead of a O it's a U in the existing bolt holes?
@HeavyForge

The Bogamin absolutely can and that’s what I was thinking about doing so I don’t loose space.
