In today's video, I forge a simple dinner knife out of rebar. I start by heating the metal in my forge until it is glowing red and starting to form scale (black flaky oxide coating). When its hot enough I begin to hammer out the tip, continuing to flatten out the length to the desired measurement of the blade. I section off where the handle will be and hot cut the steel using a hatchet. After forging, the knife will be refined on the bench grinder, then the belt grinder. I haven't made a knife with a wood handle in quite a while so I grab some scrap oak wood that I had lying around. The wood is cut to the handle length and drilled for brass pins. Again, I use the belt grinder for rough profiling. The handle is then contoured, sanded, and assembled with the pins and epoxy. The final step is sharpening the knife and it's complete.
