Stats are incorrect, I'm a mechanic and I usually have a 90% chance to drop my spanners. I spend more time picking them up and cleaning oil off them than I do removing or tightening bolts.

@@dnxx503 A lot of restores on KZitem make the stuff look pretty but ruin the metal. Or restore a chefs knife and use unsafe chemicals for use with food on the handle. Things like that.

Would have been cool if you milled out some slots in the sheathe first to drop some neodymium magnets and then embedded some in the blade too so that the blade doesn't slip out as easily

Looks great. The big problem i see with your process is you do a complete heat treat before you grind the bevel. Even if you dip in water to cool the blade, it still ruins the heat treat close to the grind point. Especially in the thin areas close to the edge. Grind the entire bevel out then do the heat treat. Do all the finish work, then sharpen. If you harden the blade before all the bevel grinding, the metal is harder and will eat all your ceramic belts.

Yea, that file skate didn't sound that hard ,and he was working that metal at not a consistent temp and to cold so that metal probably has stress fractures

It’s kind of a moot point because he’s working with chromium alloy steel. I doubt functionality was the main goal with this blade.

if you get hold of 2 tiny magnets to place in the join then it may make the hidden feature more hidden as it will take a bit of force to split the wrench

Slowly taper out the heat treat by gently heating it up with a torch and letting it cool down naturaly

You can anneal the wrench, which basically means to heat it up to arround1500 degrees and keep it there for quite some time, then you let it cool gradually. I hope I have been a help to you. And good luck with your project!

Hey guys, anyone of you have an experience making a knife from these Cr-V wrenches ...I'm talking about durability, toughness, capability of holding an edge..simply put, is it a good(ish) material to make knifes out of? Any thoughts on that are appreciated.

Chromium-vanadium alloy steels are considered medium carbon, so tough and durable but not ideal for holding an edge.

I don't do this type of work, so I have one question really. You already have a hardened bit of steel spanners are usually very tough, you have a grinder I presume, why didn't you just cut the spanner where you wanted the blade to be and just grind it into shape cooling it so it didn't soften the metal as you go. As I don't have a furness and only torches, I don't even have space for such a thing, but simply grinding it into shape may have produced a decent blade anyway.

The problem here is that the wrench is a sufficient melee weapon, so making a weak knife, and a flimsy wrench defeats the purpose of the concealed weapon
