some people hate the narration method i don't mind it and sometimes I preffer it I just soak it in better that way. its more work for the author but you gotta proof your work anyway might as well do it all then . however, it gets done, and long as it doe's we love you for the time you will never get back for doing this \B.D.F. never stop teaching.

Floyd is a beast!!!! That's gonna cut down so much time (and propane), won't always need the steel billets to be near forging heat. Plus the different types of plates you will be able to make for it will be a lot less time consuming for you. The squaring plate for Jelly Roll Damascus will allow you to make a large roll. If you wanted to you could make different size kiss block plates, the double fuller? Not sure the name but the plate that lengthens the billet. Plus the fact that once you get a pattern down that you like, you're abilities of making thicker and longer billets will make future projects less time consuming for you. You'll be able to build up a stock of different Damascus patterns with scrappy and earl!!! I think getting the log splitter from a heavy equipment rental company was a brilliant choice! I don't know if there's any way to tell how many run time hours it has but the amount of service time it has, will definitely be more than buying from a private individual. Did they say how old the hydraulic hoses are? Plus Gibson City is close to Champaign, where the university of Illinois is so it's run time could be low for the age of the machine, just because of other rental companies in the area. Also, that entire area is mainly all farm land lol, very rich soil from the Ice age. Same thing with the county I live in, total population is 12k but are schools transportation drives the most miles in the state of Illinois!!! Awesome job building that beast!!! Can't be happier for you!!! Great video as always bud, have a great week!

Hi Phillip, I can't believe how well this thing works it's going to be amazing to work with, I've already made one billet twice the size of anything I've made before, and I've already made three different types of dyes for it to shape Damascus. The log splitter is 10 years old and was maintained once a month, the hoses are less than six months old and they had all the documentation on its service schedule over the last 10 years they replace the pump 18 months ago. The paint is little chipped up but that doesn't bother me at all I have a few chips in my own paint so I think will work well together, and on a side note Scrappy and Floyd seem to be getting along quite well. Thinks for checking out the video my friend take care.

BIG DOG FORGE That's awesome! Two of the biggest things on the machine were recently replaced,SCORE!!! I wonder how many different dyes are useful for making damascus. I've seen a knife maker just going in at like a 45* angel for a cross hatch or waffle look. One of the coolest dyes I've seen is a one that was basically the square dye but the opposite direction and I think one on each plate. It made a really cool "heartbeat" or a long billet of V's Can't wait to see what Earl,Scrappy, and yourself come up with next!!!

BIG DOG FORGE also can't wait for the jelly roll Damascus builds!!! I did email you a video I found that showed the best process for making the jelly roll Damascus. It's from the ABS, American BladeSmith Society. When you and Earl are best friends, it would be amazing to see a wrought iron round stock center! That has never been done before. Can't wait for the next video! Have an awesome week bud!

Great video.exectly what I was looking for. Now to save up the small fortune for steel and a bigger welding machine. Lots of luck with yours and make sure you let us see some of the Damascus you make. As an aside mine came with 8 dies
