Can you depend on a Chevrolet, even if it's been neglected and left to sit for over twenty years? Watch and find out! Here is your long-awaited update, at last!
I wish I could find an old truck like that for cheap, Id be messing with it all day until it purred like a kitten, haha. Nothing like hearing an old girl run after sitting for a few years. Its like opening a bottle of vintage wine.

A truck you can actually fix without a room full of diagnostic equipment. The real reason they don't build stuff this heavy duty and simple anymore should be obvious.

The carb leak was just gas running along the throttle shaft, no biggie. Since you know it'll run, i would take along some fuel line, a 1-gallon can of gas and hook it to the fuel pump intake to keep from sucking crud out of the tank. Also, would be a good idea to pull the top off the carb and clean the needle and seat. It's very simple to do on those. Good luck!

1962 with a 261 six cylinder. The 261 had 1/2 lines to and from the oil filter to the block. Also the distributor is in the middle of the bkock. 1960 and 1961 had 4 headlight. 1963 would have had 230 or 250 (possibly a 292) six cylinder which is a different design that the engine shown here. The 230, 250 and 292 had the3 distributor closer to the front of the engine.

How long has that truck been parked? What year is the last license plate on it? But of course, some of these farm trucks, may have been used several years after their las registration. I have started many old cars that sat along time, they always need new points or sanded, and I usually cut the fuel line just before the fuel pump and run a new hose into a fresh gas can. But before I do anything, I see if the motor is going to hold water, if its cracked, why bother???

I have a question I took my 1988 buick Lesabre down to a mechanic and he said the radiator fluid is drain into the engine, which will cause problem in the future, and isn't worth the money of fixing it. I basically want to try to fix it on my own do you think it's worth the risk? and worth the time? as well it needs a new starter and brakes need to be replaced.

well my advice is when you try next time do what dave does and gravity feed the carb and clean the plugs before you try again and put some engine start or petrol on them wen u put them back in and so you don't have to spend money on new clamps use hot water to clean off corosion and sand them down

Every once in a while, I come back to revisit this one - an instant classic, IMO. Now, did I hear/see correctly in one of your recent comments that both grain trucks are "long gone"? If so, what happened to them - I mean, did someone come along and make you an offer you couldn't refuse or did you have to scrap them or maybe something inbetween? Just love the flavor in this one - and The KeyKeeper is practically unrecognizable in the recent Barn Quilt video in comparison. LOL! I'll be headed up to Nebraska next week for about a 2 1/2 week stay. Taking a road trip with my Mother up to my late Uncle's farm in Upland to oversee the demolition/salvage of the family house (built in 1917) up there - depending on where you're located in your state (I'll politely decline to divulge), maybe we could swing by for a quick visit or, if you so happen to be swinging down around southern-central Nebraska sometime between July 14th and July 30th, vice versa. ;)
@uxwbill

Without going into terrible detail, someone else within the family felt they "owned" the trucks and were free to do as they wanted with them. I'm not sure how, since they weren't titled in that person's name, and unless they stole the titles, they didn't have any proof of ownership for either truck. I'm not sure where they ultimately wound up. I was not happy with this, and did try (unsuccessfully) to stop it. I can't say as it's very likely to find myself near Nebraska. Right now, and the foreseeable future aren't good times for visitors.
@SwingMan1938
7 жыл бұрын
No problem and completely understandable - I really haven't been "prepared" to entertain visitors in many years, myself. And I apologize if I pried and/or overstepped my bounds in any way. Shame about the trucks, though - the "Blue Light Special" Chevy in this video was right on the precipice of new life.....
