I think grading drafts is a great idea. I'd probably do it like a book review 1-5 stars. One star is probably never completed or shelved project, no matter how much I love it If I did my best but it needed some work in the structure, it would hit around 2.5 If I did my best and it just needed line edits, foreshadowing, better naming, etc. I'd give it a 3 or 3.5 If I really liked major part but know some background work needs to be done I'd put it at 4 A 5 star is no rewrites necessary just revisions.

I am so excited by (and envious of) your enthusiasm for the next draft. I am most excited at the start of projects and I find the editing/rewriting process so difficult, partly because it seems I have the general idea of the story I'm telling but struggling to find the right words for it. Your enthusiasm for a 5th draft is simply amazing. And inspiring! Thanks Kate!!

The funniest thing about the 'armourer' thing is that it took me a WHILE to realize you were saying 'armourer' a.k.a someone who makes armour, and not 'The Armour', a.k.a a living piece of armour. Like I straight up thought the character was an sentient suit of armour LMAO. Part of that might be on my listening to these in the background and having shit memory, but nevertheless i'm glad you're changing it to something easier to say (and hear!)

I think grading a draft from 0% to 100% is pretty solid. When I finish my first draft, I think I will use your example on grading. Great vlog and I am super excited for you. Thank you for sharing! I love your creative energy.

Still watching but yeah 'The armorer" (or however it's spelled) is very hard to say especially for someone like me, who has a rhotacism. I love when you show clips of Discord and I can see my little icon on it. Lol I literally say it and went "oh hey, that's me!" XD Also additional side note I love seeing the timelapses of you typing, it's so satisfying to listen to. "The beat beats" 16:14 Hahahahah Vin went YEET! The 2000s Made Me Gay is the best book title ever.

Interesting to hear your draft process; quite different from mine. ‘What do you add in?’ I always add in little details, things someone should have said, expand on a section. Occasionally adding in whole new scenes. In one of my novels, I added a whole middle third, (20K) because my mate critiqued the piece. Turned out it needed a middle. I usually hand out a “perfect, 100%” fourth draft. My mates sharp correct me. Glad they do, we can never see our own faults. (100% - not actually that vain or that dumb.)

I love how many drafts you go through to make your story "perfect" Kate. I've been working on the first book in my series for 4 years now. Because the first version of it was half the story and what you would call not even a zero draft. 😂😂😂 But then I changed the entire thing and STILL didn't write "the end" but still considered a zero draft. I'm considering the draft now as draft 1 because of HOW MUCH I changed and improved it. Even if I haven't written the end either. But I've written so much and added things I never knew would even fit the story. It's awesome. ❤💙 No matter how long it takes me to write this entire first book (which I know the series forward will be easier) it will all work out in the end, and it'll be my dream come true! 😍

I like the idea of grading drafts, having some ability to analyze how close it is. It probably would be nearly impossible with the first couple drafts you ever do, just because you're still learning all the things you aren't good at 😂 but I'm about to start what is I guess draft 3? Of my blood magic project and the previous draft was probably... 30%? This next draft is going to be a big rewrite so once all the plot problems are fixed I can really work on polishing!

Hypothetical question for project death… what happens in the case of accidents? What if you didn’t know someone was allergic to peanuts. Gave them cake with nuts inside and they died. Would you die too then?

the minor charakter becoming the main character thing and carrying the story too much-thing happened to one of my stories, too. Sadly I can't write more on it at the moment, because now I don't know how to progress the story anymore :D When you begin to love certain characters too much xD ruins too much :P

I am not seriously working on anything novel wise but I've been hammering out poetry collections this year (working on my fourth and it's only May!) My first collection this year I'd give a 90/100 or 4.5 stars My second collection this year I'd give a 85/100 or 4 stars My third collection I'd give a 70/100 or 3.5 stars Now I know it looks bad cause the numbers are decreasing but that's bc each collection focuses on a different topic and the execution of said topic makes me feel different so it looks worse but for first drafts this is the best it can be as an individual work.

i would defintly rate my draft as a 0 because its not nearly as fleshed out as your lol. especially since this is a story I wrote in middle school/highschool and I never completed it on paper. although I have the completed plot in my head, i never tried to write it out as a full fledge story as it was a just a dream for me in the past to do so. now that i moved states away from everything i know for a new great job. i have a lot of free time that i can actually edit and try to make this into a actual novel. you and the other authors on youtube here has made me feel very motivated to actually want to make the child dream a reality. i watch you in the background so many hours while i work on my story the characters and world building that its not even worth grading at this point. i even had 15,000 words written from when i wrote it in my child days.
