To have the 3rd highest A/YPA ever recorded disproves that narrative. He also beat Jeff Garcia's franchise record for passing yards on over 100 less pass attempts, and he put up the highest deep throw completion % ever recorded this season. I mean this kid is insane.
@blacksheep_edge1412

Dink & dunk guys don't lead the league in YPA while throwing the fewest attempts in the league. Dink & dunk guys don't run up the 5th most yards in the league while sitting one game, and having zero receivers on the leader list for YAC on the season. It don't happen like that. Honestly I use to root for Alex back when he was playing, even when he got traded to Washington. So to see him on TV as an analyst and spitting facts like this, makes me respect him more.

There are many in the National Media seem to *_WANT_* Purdy to fail. Why they do is beyond me. They just don't like an underdog story that *_THEY THEMSELVES_* didn't invent to draw attention to themselves. They compare him to players that have been picked in the first round and/or been in the league for multiple years. They ignore the fact that Brock Purdy has only been in the league for 2 seasons and has only had significant playing time since December 4, 2022, which was only 1 year, 1 month and 24 days ago. - They're judging him as if he's played in the league for a decade. - They judge him by the support he gets from his fans (based on his efficiency statistics, historic numbers and the fact that, until he had a bad game against Baltimore, he was *_THE_* leading MVP candidate). - No *_TRUE_* 49ers fan believes that his career has been better than Mahomes, Jackson or Allen in totality. - However, he has helped take his team to the NFC Championship Game 1-1/6 years in a row (you can't say 2 years, because he hasn't been under center as the starter that long). -They're judging him based on 2 or 3 bad games as if all other QBs in the league essentially have 17 perfect games each year. And don't forget that he was also coming off *_MAJOR ELBOW SURGERY_* that only *_TWO_* other QBs in the history of the NFL have also had (neither of them starters). *_AND_* most people expected him to be out for the first month of the 2023 season, yet, although he missed OTAs, he showed up ready to go for Training Camp *_WAY AHEAD_* of schedule.

All you said, absolutely true. The objective of this game IS to stack up your team with the best talent possible to achieve the end goal, the Lombardi trophy. Stafford didn't have much in Detroit. He had to come to the Rams, they had to stack the roster with OBJ, Leonard Floyd, Von Miller, etc to get a ring. Tom Brady had good surroundings, Russell Wilson, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Joe Montana, Patrick Mahomes, etc. But the media thrives on making Purdy a victim of his circumstance.

@@jesusquiroz2449 That's so true... Brock Purdy isn't the only MVP Finalist to have great players surround him. Here are a few examples of MVP QBs who had a GREAT supporting cast (in no particular order): 1. Joe Montana had Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, John Taylor, Brent Jones and Tom Rathman. 2. Steve Young had Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Ricky Watters, Brent Jones and William Floyd. 3. Tom Brady had Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Kevin Faulk and Ben Watson. 4. Peyton Manning had Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Reggie Wayne and Marcus Pollard. 5. Kurt Warner had Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt. 6. Aaron Rodgers had Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Donald Driver and Jermichael Finley. 7. Patrick Mahomes had Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Kareem Hunt, Sammy Watkins and Chris Conley. 8. Brett Farve had Antonio Freeman, Edgar Bennett, Robert Brooks, Mark Chmura and William Henderson. 9. Dan Marino had Mark Clayton, Mark Duper, Tony Nathan, Dan Johnson and Woody Bennett. 10. John Elway had Terrell Davis, Ed McCaffrey (CMC's dad), Shannon Sharpe, Rod Smith and Howard Griffith. I could go on and on and list MVP QBs like Johnny Unitas, John Brodie, Ken Stabler, Fran Tarkenton, Terry Bradshaw, Ken Anderson, Joe Theismann, Boomer Esiason and Steve McNair as well.

7 coordinators in his first 7 years with the Niners. I was ALWAYS a fan of Smith. Shoot, I went on an eBay buying spree grabbing every Alex Smith card I could get my hands on. Same thing with Frank Gore and then Patrick Willis. The dude had one of the worst opportunities to start his NFL career. Management in shambles, high player for around percentage for a while, spotty O-Line, THROWN INTO THE FIRE FROM THE GET! But they were like "but here's Frank Gore.....GOOD LUCK BUDDY!". I'm not gonna lie, I thought benching Smith after he recovered from injury was the worst decision Harbaugh ever made for the Niners. Smith finally had a good team and stability and has a career year and has to sit the last half of the season and watch Kap come up short. Then Smith tears it up in KC just like Cool Joe did! I rooted for Smith till the end of his career. Now to see him say this about Purdy reinforces my admiration and respect for #11. YOU'RE THE MAN ALEX! Ok the Smith benching and the 3 straight passes to Crabtree at the opponents 2 effing yard line when you have one of the best runningbacks to ever play the game chillin in the backfield waiting to block. And shit the bed with crapernick. That was one of those "what the hell did I just see" moments. But that said I think Alex Smith would have gotten it done with 3 straight pass calls at the 2.
