China is currently *at peace and not at war* with any country, since our last major conflict in 1979. Asian culture don't have this trait. Look at the Taiwan politics, where both parties break into fights with chairs thrown at each other.

I’m a U.S. citizen currently residing in China. Representative and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi should learn her history: 1867: the U.S. becomes the first country to attack China with a warship. 1874: during the Mudan incident, the U.S. supports Japan in its invasion of China. 1885: Qing Dynasty declares Taiwan a Chinese Province. 1894-1895: during the First Sino-Japanese War, the U.S. sells weapons to Japan, aiding in the defeat of China, and the ceding of Taiwan to Japan via the lopsided Treaty of Shimonoseki. 1943: The joint U.S.-British Cairo Declaration calls for all Chinese territory occupied by Japan to be returned to China upon Japan’s defeat; the Declaration explicitly mentions Taiwan. 1945: China announces the reunification of Taiwan and other territories to the mainland. 1947: An anti-government uprising in Taiwan prompts the 228 Incident, in which around 20,000 civilians were killed as it was violently suppressed by the U.S.-preferred leader Chiang Kai-shek. 1947-1990s: The White Terror repression of Taiwanese civilians by the KMT under the direct orders of Chiang Kai-shek; more than 3,000 Taiwanese were executed. 1949: the PRC is established; the Nationalists flee to Taiwan amid U.S. military intervention to stop reunification. The intervention ended up actually doing Mao a favor, as he was then able to focus on rebuilding the motherland after years of war and colonialization by other nations, including the U.S. 1978: UN Resolution 2758 gives full recognition to the PRC as the legitimate government of China, including Taiwan; the U.S. did not sign this Resolution. 2016 to today: A powerful U.S. puppet, Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party, has been disrupting reunification efforts by a supposed “independence” movement. 2022: Nancy Pelosi makes an official State visit to Taiwan. Pelosi’s visit angered the Chinese people and many peoples worldwide. Her action is recognized for what it really is: a political ploy to continue support for U.S. hegemony. She and I grew up during the formative years of the PRC, and like her, I believed like most “good Americans” that China was a rogue nation, out to capture the world and impose its communist values globally. Not once did it occur to us to question the U.S. representations as bogus: here was a nation that had just recovered from WWII, a Japanese invasion, colonialization, and a protracted civil war that lasted from 1927 to 1949; this was a nation that wanted to take over the world? I have since discovered the truths; she has not. Today’s U.S. government (aka the “Military-Industrial Complex”) continues its anti-Chinese provocations, in spite of the fact that modern China is completely different from the early China Pelosi and I had learned about. It is more out of habit than awareness of reality that drives Pelosi’s and many U.S citizen’s current views about China. Like most “aware” people, I saw her recent visit as a setback against a timely reconciliation of Taiwan and Beijing. Then I heard some additional news that altered my perception. As mentioned, many globally were angered by her visit. What caught me by surprise was how the Taiwanese public was also angry at her. There were demonstrations against her visit throughout Taiwan. What her visit has done is it has awakened the Taiwanese people’s awareness of how their province has been a pawn of U.S. hegemony, and they are now taking a second look at the virtues of reunification. Thanks to Pelosi’s otherwise ill-intentioned visit, the ongoing reunification dialogue progress between Taipei and Beijing is now likely to be accelerated rather than having a delayed resolution.
Very much appreciated comment. Wish more people esp. Americans read real history like what Roger Waters said to CNN.

That means the PRC is China’s only legal gov under international law, and today the PRC also become China’s only legal gov recognized by 180 countries around the world, including the USA. "The USA recognizes the Government of the PRC as the sole legal Government of China. Within this context, the people of the USA will maintain cultural, commercial, and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan." Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the PRC and the USA (December 16, 1978) 6) Therefore, according to international law, international reality, and the wishes of the 1.4 billion Chinese people, Taiwan should return to PRC and the PRC have every right to protect its sovereign integrity.

I wish Taiwan will choose peaceful solution to return to the motherland for the best interests of the Chinese people on both sides. Chinese values family unification. Both sides belong to the same family. Any separation will only cause suffering to all Chinese people. Also China is on the rise economically to the top and Taiwan will benefit from being part of a strong and wealthy mother country. Ordinary Chinese people do not care about what kind of government they have. They just want to live a peaceful and prosperous life with strong family ties as One. 1.4 billion Chinese people will never allow anyone to destroy their wish for family reunification. Chinese government listens to the united calling of its people which means It is a good government! Taiwan political power can do the same, listening to the majority Taiwanese' wish for unification! Any stuped illusion to be independent from its motherland not only impossible, but also intensifies the sufferings of all Chinese people! Any foreign force tries to support independence of Taiwan will be the enemy of all Chinese! No Chinese in their sanity can possibly allow that to happen!

President Xi actually offered to extend the One Country, Two Systems policy to include Taiwan, allowing Taiwan to keep their separate government, currency, passport, (even keep their army!) but be considered reunified with China. It would be akin to the hypothetical example of North Korea and South Korea agreeing to reunify as a single country, Korea, while allowing both sides to keep their respective governments. But former Taiwan President Ma rejected President Xi's offer and did not offer a counter proposal of his own for reunification.

@@baojhoang7242 first of all, after all these years of brain washing by the DPP, what’s the point? Most Taiwanese don’t know the truth as the deep green media of Taiwan only have a anti China stance. Second, when have this voting solution work when a country sovereignty issue is involved. If this had worked, then there will be no civil war in USA. Remember, 13 states voted, legally to secede from USA and form the confederate. What’s the result? Civil war and countless people died as a result. @Cyrus Janssen I appreciate your view and experience on China but I the US government is fully aware of ambassador Max Baucus's advice similar to former US ambassadors to Russia that had warned about Ukraine being the reddest of red lines for Russia. The US wants a war in order to maintain its global hegemony. This has been the primary view of the neocons in the US, which now seems to be the dominant view in US politics. A civil war in China fought by proxy to slowly weaken China is perhaps what the US wants. The US knows that a direct confrontation with China in the Taiwan strait would be difficult to impossible to win. The US has a long history of provoking internal conflicts in countries to weaken and ultimately control.

In support of Cyrus's greater experience, I lived and worked in China for several years and everything he says is spot on. The Chinese could not possibly have been kinder, more gracious, more helpful and civil in every way. The time I spent working there was some of the most pleasant and productive of my life and for that I thank them wholeheartedly. Decades have gone into maintaining a relatively constructive relationship with this great and ancient country and to see all that work diminished by the hapless, inept, decrepit relics and their subordinates presently in power in the US is not only disturbing but increasingly perilous as well. Martin Jacques' comments, along with Ambassador Baucus', are entirely apt. Whether it be Russia or China, the inability on the part of the US leadership to cooperatively accept a multi-polar world will eventually be our undoing. And we will have brought it entirely upon ourselves.
