Former Workers' Party chief Low Thia Khiang will not be contesting in Singapore's upcoming general election. He joined the WP in 1982 and his breakthrough came in 1991, when he contested in the single-member ward of Hougang and won 52.8% of the votes. It kicked off a 29-year spell in parliament. Former elected MPs Chen Show Mao and Png Eng Huat have also decided not to contest. Party chief Pritam Singh cited party renewal as one of the reasons.
