What a great film. I think the 1.5L era really showcased (if the cars didn't break) the driver's abilities. It took a skilled (and brave) driver to really get the most out of these cars.

Brings back a wave of nostalgia. I've met and in some cases knew all but five drivers in this race. What a wonderful time it was. Here's to Dan and his All American Racers!

This was a good production! As stated by some: Great film footage. Commentary was very good...and cute, at times. So..."Dan the Man" won. That was one of several he won in F-1. He is missed since his passing away late last year (2017). His group made several great winning cars over the decades. I liked most of his A.A.R. (All-American Racing) "Eagles".

Unusually good race film. You get the fell of the event. No safety car, no penalties, very little BS. Those were the days my friend...

Dan Gurney gave Porsche it's first World Championship win. He gave Brabham it's first win also in France in 1964. And of coarse he gave Eagle it's first F-1 win too

about the accident at the end of the race : Surtees struggled across the line and attempted to to pull into his pit but was prevented from doing so by a long line of gendarmes (cops). Trintignant approaching at speed, swerved to avoid him straight into the path of a close following Taylor in his Lotus 25. Taylor's Lotus was written off in the ensuing collision. So the gendarmes were faultly at 100 %

The winner, Dan Gurney and Surtees are only men alive today, among the drivers seen in the film. 7:24 it seems like Jackie Lewis plans a violent argument with Graham Hill but Hill escapes driving away.

The 1977/ 78 F2 race at Rouen is the last real French Gp the standard and drivers are higher than those racing at Paul Richard and they have more in common with those here or even those chasing Fangio downhill in 1957, Musso and Collins hellbound and even quicker in the hopeless 801 which on the level would be 12mph slower 178 v 190 cf a 250F of Fangio and Behara but on the straight here there actually closing running downhill and believe me Hawthorn is running on his usual safe limit he isnt flagging cruising it to 4th. Collins and Musso know they have no hope and no more than a year

In his book "1 1/2 litre gp racing 1961-65 Low power, High tech" (very good book !) , Mark Whitelock write " a bout of industrial unrest had broken out in the italian metal working unions and Ferrari wa unable to prepare the cars. There was a suspicion that Ferrari was using this unrest as an excuse for no appearing and as a cover for the team lack of performance...

@@DL-ls5sy I enthusiastically second this recommendation of Whitelock's 1.5 Litre book. Very comprehensive study of the 1961-65 F1 cars, drivers, circuits. Every manufacturer and chassis documented; plenty of technical info. Overview commentary on each season, with all race results. (Non-championship F1 races included too.) Good subjective observations re driver ability, design strengths and flaws, etc. Great photos!

There is remarkably little power in these 1.5 cars a good V8 which mcLaren, Clark Ireland will have would give 195hp and I guess Brabham, Surtees, Maggs would have little more than 180hp the rest V8s 165/170. Porsche maybe 180hp. BRM 200hp but a lot heavier than the Lotus 25 and Hill is heavier 13stone v 9 stone might be more than 2 sec a lap loss around here and Graham might be 2 stone heavier than Clark so that would lose 1.2 sec or more a lap here although its obvious the Lotus is not totally right at Rouen and Clark is nursing it.\But by the 1976 -1979 the F2 cars with BMW 4 or Ferrari V6 pure racing engines power could be 310hp plus an FVC a bit less maybe a lot less- but you would have speeds a 190mph on the long downhill straight and its faster , more lethal and more difficult than fF1 at Spa 1n 1970. But in 1962 here thje power is such that its survivable and considerably more amatuer than the 62 GP but the driver std is equal
