Fort Aguada, a magnificent hilltop fort in Candolim, North Goa, boasts a rich history dating back to 1612 when it was constructed by the Portuguese. The fort, a symbol of Portuguese heritage, served as a strategic defense against Maratha and Dutch invaders. Its architecture, using laterite stone, features bastions, a moat, and a secret passage. The fort's lighthouse, Asia's oldest, once used oil lamps and a bell from the Church of St. Augustine. It played a cinematic role and houses a jail. Surrounding attractions include Sinquerim Beach and Fort, Rocky Beach, and Candolim Beach. Entry is free, and it's open daily from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.
