As a former Infantry soldier I have to question what appears to be horrific tactics. We always trained that when you are in vehicles and are caught in a ambush, if a vehicle is disabled in the attack the vehicle behind it immediately pushes the disabled vehicle through the kill zone. The ONE THING you do not want to happen is to come to a dead stop in a prepared ambush kill zone.

That's why they train. To learn these things to the point where they become automatic responses.

I'm going to guess that for the sake of not risking damaging a training vehicle, pushing was discouraged. Real world would be different. 68w here going to NTC this summer. Thanks for your service blue.

Negative, Train how you fight. What's the point of training if your just going to change everything when you get down range? When you going? I head out for another NTC rotation next month.

You are correct why aren't they training how you fight, easy enough to put bumper pads on a hummer

As a current Artilleryman (M777A2), I know the difference between the experiences at NTC, but seeing some of these places that I recognize just in the video alone put a smile on my face, remembering the suck that we went through to support our Infantry and Cav brothers & sisters down range for counter battery and support seems to bring back good memories of the testing bad times. Hearts out to everyone else who endured the 112+ degree suck

The worst month was August, the hottest I’ve experienced was 127 degrees and not a cloud in the sky , my track over heated around 1100 and didn’t get moving till about 1900, hottest day of my life. I was stationed there for 3 years, good unit but the place sucked.

it is a great thing to see NTC's transformation. my orders when I joined active Army as a tanker to 1/63 Armor said camp Irwin and base command was under Col. RIP Roper. I have received multiple Hanby's and have pictures where we transitioned that chunk of desert to FT. Irwin and spent 4 years handing it blue force. painted rock had a couple units on it when I arrived and when I left was so much larger we built the first mock air field and had great night battles in the washboard, black basalt, yellow brick road, kasarine and around TV hill. my wife worked for SAIC who put all the cameras and monitoring equipment in place for battles. it is so cool to think back to those days it was hot, dirty and long long days and nights but a blast trainging blue force. I was in the first opfor academy's classes. would love to come back and visit and share my long knowledge of NTC. Ssg Retired Husselman

@@siy1580 short answer: Awful bro. It was a really great experience nonetheless but that environment is not built for our comfort. Sandstorms, dusters, snakes, scorpions, beetles, Coyotes, the freaking SUN was so hot and we had very little shade. Having to wear full battle rattle all day on top of no showers. I've never been in this type of environment before as I am from North Carolina so everything was definitely a shock for me but I did manage to acclimate after a couple weeks. I hate that I am going back but at least I will be more prepared.

So they’ve abandoned mass unit training movements and battles. I was a scout there from 94-97. We literally covered the entire training area. From the North Wall to Tiefort Mountain. Is this what they’re doing now? 😮
