My two favorite youtubers! Love you guys and am so grateful for how you both have encouraged me. Both of you men exemplify grace, gentleness, patience, wisdom and love for weak and struggling believers. You keep the gospel the main thing and always bring every discussion back around to stay grounded in the gospel. Chris from California

Growing up in the Church of Christ (now Baptist), I still have a soft place in my heart for a capella worship. The power went out near the end of a service at our church recently, and so we sang the Doxology a cappella, and it was wonderful. I really love to see worship styles that encourage the church to sing and allows the voices of the church to encourage one another. I also love the ability to not be bound to instruments or a band, just being able to start a song when you have a group of believers together. The flip side of a capella worship is that less-experienced or less-skilled singers can feel exposed and ashamed to sing, and when there is harmony, there is a learning curve that can become a barrier to worship. It's also harder to introduce new songs to churches without some instrumental backing or practiced leaders. There's a balance I think that can be healthy, and its probably different to each congregation. The Acapella Company on KZitem has a group, Praise and Harmony, that is dedicated to teaching a capella music to the church. It's a great resource if people want it.

Im part way through Pastor Everhard’s book, “Worshiptainment” and it is a very well argued thesis. I appreciate that he took the time to write biblically on this topic and have the work published. It will ignite conversation and hopefully it will be used by God to ignite change within the Church.

Two wonderful brothers, that I dearly love! It was so good to see and hear you together! Just like RC Sproul and John McArthur were good friends from the different denominations, that I see here too. I’ve been to Pastor Keith’s church, now I need to plan visiting Pastor Matt’s. God bless you, brothers!

Great episode. Pastor Matthew is right about the Reformed Presbyterian's and singing. I went to an RP school near Pastor Matthew's church in PA, and the Psalm singing was beautiful. It also included the entire congregation.

Big difference between hearing worship and deaf worship: we don’t use sound system or music instruments. We only use one drum for vibrate purpose. We song in ASL. We don’t use hymn but ASL “hymns”. I do use psalm for worship song but not in meter. God bless both of you.

Just discovered Pastor Everhard, loved his video on what a pastor's life looks like. Seeing the lives of Everhard and my father (who's a pastor) really gives me a deeper desire to be a pastor. I've kinda been thinking I want to be a pastor for a LONG time. We're talking pre-covid, which basically makes it a lifetime ago 😂. Anyways I applied to Boyce college last night in Louisville, KY. Louisville was actually where a majority of my childhood was spent so I hope God let's me go back.

We just ordered the book. This is just what the church needs to know about worship. I personally am a music junky and can separate from it when it comes to worship music. The human voice is the ultimate worship instrument, and instruments should never overplay the human voice. However, instrumental melodies of hymns and spiritual songs can be uplifting and ministerial to the soul. Example: David played and the evil spirit would leave Saul.

Hey Keith, if you could somehow reach out to me, I’d love your opinion on this question below. I serve on a modern “worship” team at my church. We try with our best understanding as a church to sing only theologically correct songs, and hymns occur on the rare end, but we have a live band and live vocalists singing into microphones. I am a lead vocalist myself. The church congregation always is heard singing with us for the majority of the time, but when we introduce a less familiar or newer song, people sing less. We would probably be considered fairly conservative in comparison to other Pentecostal churches, but are we in the wrong by having a worship team? We do not do it to entertain, but to lead and encourage others to sing boldly before the throne of God. Would love to hear your thoughts, I can even share our livestream with you. Btw love your ministry. Thanks for the great info and different perspectives you provide. God bless

I can't sing well and I spent a lot of years asking God why singing was the only way to worship Him. It shut me out. Eventually I realized there are other ways to worship God, but singing is the only "acceptable" way in most churches. Pentecostal churches give more people the ability to worship God in their own skill set. That is why I put up with the local Pentecostal church's abusive behavior for several years. At least I could participate in worship, which was precious. Eventually the abuse was so blatant my family walked out, but I was back to not being able to sing. I do still play a hand drum in my seat at my new church. Sometimes my tambourine, so I am not fully shut out. Still, worship should be more than just singing.

Any church that limits itself to sing the Psalms is basically saying, 'Let's ignore the New Testament when we sing.'

I will say, as Lutherans we don’t really tend to use the term “normative principle of worship.” My understanding is that’s more of an Anglican thing (though Lutheran and Anglican worship are rather similar). We will actually speak of worship as positively based on what we see in Scripture, rather than just doing whatever we are not forbidden to do. However, the way this works out is different than the Reformed, as we base a lot of our liturgy on the heavenly worship we see in Revelation. Thus, we have retained the ancient liturgy, simply reforming away unbiblical accretions. Be that as it may, I would still prefer a Reformed RPW service over the abysmal modern worship most evangelical churches have. I am looking forward to hopefully getting this book and reading it. This is one of the biggest issues in the church today and hopefully God will use this book to inspire congregations to reform their worship to be more God-honoring. Thanks for this interview and God bless you both.

49:13..."Are you an influencer?" You cannot be a shepherd without being an influencer. The real question is, who are you spending your capital influencing? For shepherds, it should be their own flocks. Now, that doesn't rule out influencing beyond the flock; for those so gifted, it is an important extension of the local church's salt/light duty. The problem happens when the shepherd becomes more interested in influencing a large audience apart from their flock to the detriment of the flock. It will also be a problem when the pastor/influencer leaves the realm of the gospel and of discipleship and goes over to some sort of attractional model.

If it's participatory worship in church, then whatever the culture considers modest is an acceptable style. It might be different from one locale to the next, from one ethnic culture to the next. Scripturally sound lyrics that focus on Christ and his kingdom, and not self, are the most edifying. But there is also a place for a more emotive and free experience outside of the church walls. The young and old might have differing opinions about what touches their hearts in this form of attainment. Neither libertines nor Pharisees.

That’s what Church of Christ believes. I mean we knew smh other denominations didn’t believe instruments. How would most people know the tune if it’s accapella? I only know a few songs tunes like Amazing Grace and can’t sing on tune without a piano or guitar. I agree that we can do things without that, but how sad to throw away the OT forms of worship. To me that’s legalistic.
