You do some really sweet things done for these kids. Like letting them pick out a new toy, or new clothes. None of the homes me & my siblings were in did anything to make us feel welcome or to make the transition easier for us.

I'm so sorry to hear that. No one did anything nice for my little brother either (I was already out of the house due to aging out when he was taken and put into foster care). He had an awful time, and I was so glad when he turned 17 and came to live with me. I would have loved for him to be with a family like this one.

Giving the children new pjyamas & a new toy is a lovely idea & I am sure they will appreciate & remember the kind gesture. I buy stuff in the sales for Christmas presents, there really are off season bargains, but you have an even better reason. Any child would be lucky to be placed with you.

This video really touched my heart. It seems like such a silly thing, but I’m in my 30’s and we have been battling infertility, and I’ve had a hard time attaching myself to the idea of eventually becoming a mom (whether by birth or adoption), and seeing this sweet room, and all your lovely planning and especially your treasure chest really made me feel excited for whatever way we become parents someday. I think I’ve been guarding my heart knowing that parenthood may not be in our future. I don’t know that foster to adopt would be a good choice for us, but it definitely makes me think about it as an option for the future ❤ Thank you!

You should paint the walls gray or white and use those decorations! It’s gender neutral and the room will still decorated. Maybe next time just use the first letter of their first name? Or let them finger paint a letter that way the room feels more personal to them. Edit: or do the entire room that tan color to go with the gold. The decorations are very cute and makes the room feel like an actual home as opposed to just a place to sleep.
@monicatisminesky

Just what I was going to comment, @kelseyandfamily. I am prepping the room for foster. It will to go with the rest of the house and the rest of the house has a gray and white and black with pops of bright colors and black and white pattern mix. So for this room I’ll leave most walls white, paint one of the rooms with a fairly dark gray, and then use accessories for pop of color. So I’ll keep some accessories in more girly colors and some in boy colors. But even I could just do yellow which would be fitting for both. So some of these accessories would be for example throw pillows, The color in a paining or its frame, a box for toys. I have a frame where I can frame some art of their drawings or something meaningful for them.

I'm not even starting the process to be a foster parent yet, but I have a spare bedroom that I am filling up the closet with clearance clothes, and toys that I find for a good price, or really anything that I think will be useful for when I am a foster parent. It's nice to see that someone else also stocks up for these things. I was beginning to think I was the only one haha.

I’ve always wanted to foster kids when I’m older but I’ve been very cautious of it because I was scared of getting attached but then I watched this video and i realized that even if the kids are out in a different home I’ll be giving them a home for even a little bit. @Litcott
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah... I don't mean to criticize her or detract from what she's doing, because she seems like an AMAZING foster parent, but she's really hung up on conventional gender norms. She picked what is, in her mind, a girly theme for the two girls. But then when it became unclear whether or not they'd be staying she delayed decorating for a year. Because she worried the next foster child might be a boy? Sis, free your mind! Pink is not inherently a girl's color! Even if it was, better to tweak the theme to be traditionally gender neutral (which in this case would really only require painting over the pink wall and maybe switching out the rug, but I'd bet any boy would love a fluffy rug like that regardless of color) than to delay decorating for a year. You can have a moon and stars and clouds theme that's gender neutral and use all the stuff you already purchased. And you don't need to worry about the color of the fitted sheets, for goodness' sake. I have 5 siblings and we really could not have cared less about how feminine or masculine our clothes were, what color the sheets we slept on were, or what color our bedroom walls were (beyond wanting to paint them our favorite colors - mine at 5 years old, a little girl, was hunter green). We wore each other's hand-me-downs, the sheets were communal and you got whatever happened to be clean at the time, and we switched rooms a lot depending on who wanted to share with whom with ZERO concern for what color the walls were. Again, not trying to criticize her. I just think she's focusing on the decorating thing a little too much. I know it's probably a side effect of her caring so much but in this case it's paralyzing her from just going ahead and making the room homey for the girls.
@Kelly-xp3wm
5 жыл бұрын
Laith She’s not, “hung up on gender norms.” She just wants the room to be nice for the kids, and that’s what she thinks will make them comfortable. ALL parents do it as they’re decorating their kids nurseries and bedrooms. Obviously when you have a baby you decorate their room by their gender. No different for her.

Any 'red' item that is 'Christmas'....w/out Christmas theme will flow right into Valentine's. Carter's Child of Mine and a couple other brands. Keep an eye out for Sesame Street pampers....they are being discontinued so will eventually go on clearance. Macy's does $15.99 jackets before winter really kicks off. I think it's early October?

Hi! Just came across this video but I wanted to share an idea that you could just continue to do your cloud/star theme because it is neutral and I was thinking for crib sheets you could do gold/yellow/white/gray those are neutral colors so each time you have new kids you don't have to go all out. Anyways, I look forward to fostering in the future and admire your heart that you put into fostering!

She’s not going to mom although reunification is the goal. She is going to another foster family. I saw mom today because she had a visitation and she was so kind to me and asked to hug me and expressed how thankful she was. I really did appreciate that. Totally not necessary, but it made me feel like this was all worth it. I wish I could have done more for her and the situation, but you live and learn. I’m new so I’m trying and getting used to all this craziness. I will miss posting her here and there on insta. She makes my heart so happy.
