Fun Fact: The sap from this tree contains Urushiol (thus the name Urushi Lacquer) which is also the chemical in Poison Oak and Ivy that makes you itch. The fact that people put on protective gear and work with this substance just to get a finish unobtainable any other way is mind-blowing.

Kael If you want a brighter sound, yes. If not, then no. They're on about the same level as far as technical ability goes, but D7000's have more a sub-bassy kind of sound with everything above that smooth and refined, while TH600 are more traditionally neutral and even slightly bright. Still got a lot of bass, but not as much as D7000. The rest of the headphone is pretty much identical.
@clintdeygoo

Musiccalgary The community talk has more often been about Stax SR009, Audeze LCD3, Fostex TH900, HiFiMan HE-6 or Sennheiser HD800 being the top heaphones, with some commenting that Grados tend to be too 'forward'.
@ZakiRoamsAround

The audiophile community generally seem to think that this pair of headphones are worth the price for its sound quality. Frequently thought of as one of the top closed back headphones being produced today. I'd like to try the TH900 soon.
@ZakiRoamsAround
9 жыл бұрын
I know a little about Grado. I don't think it is fair to dismiss headphones simply because they are expensive and choose to market their lacquering technique. Perhaps they think the sound quality will do all the talking. There are people, for example the moon audio CEO, who think Grado is more suited to rock, while other headphones with more flat response are better suited for the reference role. I have not been able to find direct comparisons between the Fostex TH900 and the Grado GS1000 or PS1000. Top of the line headphones comparisons in a few review sites do not even mention the Grado flagship. I'm looking for headphones to try out so I've been reading up a bit

The lacquering is done by a Japanese business, where artisan labor can be very expensive. The cherry birch they used is native to Japan though I'm not sure if the ones they used are actually grown in Japan. I'm not sure about the other components as well. Fostex did state that they have manufacturing facilities in China
@ZakiRoamsAround
9 жыл бұрын
I read Japanese, and can recognize the Japanese writings on the newspaper at 03:40 . I can be sure that the lacquering is done in Japan. However, The Fostex website states "The Foster group have manufacturing facilities around the world, the most significant of which is in China, now employing over seventeen thousand people. Although some of Fostex's professional products still require assembly in Japan, more and more products are now being designed with a view to China production" I just can't be sure that EVERY component was made in Japan.
@derbigpr500
9 жыл бұрын
dablet00 Cheap labor? First of all, nothing is cheap about this. Second, this is just one component of a headphone. You kind of forgot about the engineering of drivers and the rest of the components, which is much harder than just carving wood.
