We do driven piles in the Waikato area- sometimes up to 13m in length on real bad sites. Some sites are challenging to get either an 8t or 14t digger to drive piles.

Hi Josh, this building is not in Auckland right? Cause I heard you say dig 200mm out, and in Auckland at least dig 450mm from good ground to do the foundation. Just a little thought from a first semester student at Unitec haha :)

Sometimes in NZ the soil and ground immediately under the slab cannot bear the weight of the slab and building properly. If this is the case. the geotechnical engineers will find where good ground is and piles will be driven to find good ground (good ground can handle 300kpa of pressure and withstand the pressure and weight of the slab and building. The piles are then driven into good ground so the weight of the slab and building is transferred to good ground . Some NZ soil is prone to liquefaction which can sink the building, there are different construction techniques for building foundations to ensure the building isn’t damaged by liquefaction.
