starving is not that hard
@JonDrinksWater

@@snubdawg1386fasting isn't that hard when you have your life in order and the rest of your health in order. But starving yourself for a long period of time is really hard when food is the main thing in your life that brings you any happiness. I had excruciating back pain for many years That's when I was gaining most of my weight, It was one of the only things that helped me cope with the spine pain. Thankfully I was able to finally get approved for my spine surgery and it was a success so I don't have that pain anymore. I've kept the weight off for a few years. But that's a big thanks to my life and health being an order now. But I just don't think it's accurate to give a blanket statement that starving yourself is easy. If it was, then everyone would.

As someone that lost 140 pounds total and 100 pounds of that in the past 12 months, i think the largest barrier is fear. Fear of the lifestyle change, success or failure. Id say 90% of people know deep down they arent going to follow through when they start. I think a large chunk of that is being self conscious, they don't want to be seen as unhappy with their weight so they mask it with "oh im comfortable" or go to the gym and be the fattest person there. For me personally i look at it with an idgaf attitude and im doing it for me and my longevity. That has helped me tremendously. David goggins 100 mile run story was a massive motivator for me as well, if he could do that, i have no excuses. At the end of the day you have to want it bad enough and each person has a different breaking point
@EclipseCircle
10 ай бұрын
What's worse is that, over time, your mind starts believing "I'm comfortable" and you can no longer trust what you see in the mirror. I've had and still continue to deal with that problem. It's only when I see myself in a photo or a video that I can see how overweight I actually am.

I would say fear, but also lack of experience, knowledge, and scientific faith. I too lost hundreds ob lbs 2-3 times in my life - most people lack the fact that their brain + body will stop craving BS if given a purge from it; even a week of removing BS can allow for hormones and neuroplasticity to evolve into a new habitual experience. This book has been over-promoted, however, Atomic Habits can help others build an environment and mindset to get going.

I struggle with sleep vs exercise. I’m chronically sleep deprived. But I will push myself to do a hit training workout or go running and do some strength training even if it’s 11 PM because I get off work late. But then the next day I see I put on 3 lbs. it’s just so frustrating. Especially as a woman because we have to balance what’s best for our hormone levels. Rest or exercise? Because too much exercise can raise cortisol levels making you fat.

I’m a 62 yr old regular gal who takes care of her body thru all stages & ages working, motherhood, biz crazy hrs, commutes , life etc ….. Even at the fields with kids for 18 yrs. I went to games & when they went to practice I went to the fields runnin the fields lifting at the play grounds & jumping rope. Your goals makes your demands. I had a kid @ 40. at the playground while other moms were sitting . Feelin good- avoiding the cookie moms sabataging & bunko wine nights excuse for & playground mom/ wine & bookclub wine & cheese…. Every snack room in the elementary school your office etc Snack & junk food junkies. You are who you are with. Drink much look at your friends. Eat much look around. Discipline look at your surroundings. No judgement here. Do the best you can for yourself. The world is full of lustful wanna feel good stuff. Better to be truthful to yourself - no excuses unless a true disease. It ain’t easy and pretty impossible to get a 6 pack 1-2 % of real people. Life is one BIG optical illusion . Face your day, your reality & get to it.

Agree about the no solutions, it’s a push this way vs push that way. No way to really say and that’s that. So I look at thing in ranges vs balance. Get it in the range. Then expect luck, circumstances, quality, and all these other variables to help or hurt that result. Which in turn hard to gauge completely and isolate.

I’ve lost 22lbs in 35 days by being crazy strict Keto (loads of protein), and only eat in ting 1200-1500 a day. Some days I’m good, but some days it’s been really really brutal. I know that going about this fat loss as I’m doing it is extreme, but my mindset is get it done as fast as possible so I can get my damn life back! 20 more lbs and I’ll be there. I should be at my goal weight by the end of January as long as I keep my brutal eating and continue burning 500-750 calories a day at the gym.

My elderly mom was a type 2 diabetic for 12 years and switched to an exclusively plant-based diet (a version of nutritarian). According to the Levine Biological Age Calculator (Yale) based on bloodwork tests, she has aged minus 18 years (biological age) during the last 4 years. Serious question: can anyone beat that result? I am willing to learn.

Tom B, it may not be popular to admit, but I also dislike the gym, the dreadmill, all of it. It’s mostly a replacement for what used to be, historically, real life’s basic physical activities. So, every morning, I work outside, summer and winter, where it’s beautiful and always changing. I walk, hike, climb, shovel snow, shovel dirt, garden, whatever, plus watch birds, animals, trees, see the sunrise on the Alaska range, and usually get a bit of actual work done, which is also fulfilling. Granted, this place has a world class, bucket-list view, but gorgeous, life-restoring nature is everywhere, and beats the sensory deprivation view inside a gym. Doing work, or a workout in nature, may not focus on every muscle group’s aesthetic, but has other health benefits besides fitness. Happiness, for one. Just saying. 🏔️🌿🦆🦅⛷️🏕️

I would definitely tune in to a show that tests twins as long as there are two sets of twins. Male and female so there's no debate on that, as men and women are different. You totally need to do this @Tom Bilyeu. I would love to see this! Thank you for a great video and conversation!

Different diets for different people 😊 For me, I need to break fast with fruits and protein to get energy spike going for the day and late dinner with huge load of fats, proteins, veggies and sometimes if i feel keto flu from low sugar, ill eat an apple or half an apple. Works for me.

---Metabolically how is the protein sparing diet different in it;s inflammation from carnivore? It must be the fat that makes a difference. Oh you are just saying this at 16 minutes. Good. ---At 18 minutes Tom is talking about how his stomach knotted up when others were cooking. i have fasted OMAD and when i would smell food it would be like i was being fed. Maybe the difference is that I was not losing weight, just doing OMAD. Basically eating before bed because once I eat, the gates are open. Bed is like a time machine to fasting blood-sugar and safety. The only problem was tiredness in the late afternoon but I was not doing electrolytes so now i understand how to treat that problem. --- another edit: at 33 mins You say light does not reach your brain. WRONG. Your retina is literally part of your brain sticking out and protected by your eyeball. ---Q: What was going on? Why did you start Quest? A: It's a complicated answer. (Me, I am just trying to help you be clear and quality with your goal, intellectual cognition, Tom.

Wow- this blew my mind. I could listen to both all day long. If you have recommendations for a 56 year old woman who’s body is broken by life and over weight , now vegan, whose had weight loss surgery to begin??? I love working out but oh dear Lord the burning pain in my muscles is too much to bear. Help . Please 🙏 I think I’m in that overload of info and don’t know where to begin . Tom? Thomas?

10gms of L-glutamine powder added to some tasty bcaa’s mixed in 4 cups of water after ur workout. Weight lifting will help u lose fat more than just cardio so do cardio 15-30min for ur heart then lift weights. Vegan diet doesn’t equate to healthy or weight loss unless maybe only Whole Foods gluten free low glycemic…. Some people do great on the starch solution by mcdougal or 80/10/10 by dr graham…. Other people do better on the following: carnivore diet , clean keto, or dirty keto. Abs are made in the kitchen and the most important foundation. Intermittent fasting helps in conjunction with a healthy diet that works for you. If u have any autoimmune diseases look into mikayla Peterson carnivore, dr ken berry both have videos KZitem.

I continue to listen to this wonderful podcast and many insights come to me, for which I thank you. In today's world, almost all food has become toxic. Sugar is toxic for some, yet it heals others. Fruits and vegetables with oxalates are also toxic. Excess meat causes unpleasant effects. Even an excess of liver can overload the body and lead to hypervitaminosis. Intermittent fasting has become a source of toxins due to the overproduction of stress hormones, which release toxins during metabolism. Water with high deuterium content is also a source of toxins, not to mention polluted air, etc. Too much or too little sleep. It's funny to live in such a world. But at the same time, I see lessons for each of us, to finally find ourselves and hear our souls, finally turning on our minds and egos to a normal mode of translating feelings into adequacy, while the body obediently follows. This is the essence of my courses on mindful eating, where everyone finds only themselves through different types of nutrition, understanding that everything is possible. Eating nothing at all, or eating absolutely everything, but not at the same time, and most importantly, by listening to oneself.

l am down 55 lbs on Keto, but my husband won't join me in my diet because he is afraid that he will be uncomfortable - I think fear keeps many people from changing their lifestyle to improve their health.

I can completely relate! I was keto for 3 years by myself, and it takes so much control to sit down at the dinner table watching everyone eat fried chicken and pie or ice cream. It was hard. I stopped keto when I lost all my weight and switched to intermittent fasting and more of a Mediterranean diet, but my husband is not interested in doing anything. Makes it hard and I worry about his health at the same time!

Good interview Thomas! At 66 yrs ,I am still a work in progress. Maintaining willpower has been my lifelong hurdle. If I could stay at my goal weight long enough to discover what foods are optimal for me, that would be an achievement. Keep up the great work, I am paying attention.

Many people have to contend with genetic mutations that genuinely make it harder to stay fit & healthy and experience issues like more fatigue & exercise intolerance. These are gene mutations like Methylenehydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) which make it difficult to get enough folate and other B vitamins as they cannot process the synthetic version of folic acid that is added to everything. Or they maybe be carriers of the fragile X gene mutation which is passed down via the X chromosome where there are too many copies made of a specific DNA sequence. These can then lead to multiple other health issues like Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) a range of connective tissue disorders and make people more predisposed to issues like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, cognitive issues like Autism, Adhd and other mental health issues such as anxiety, insomnia and depression. The effects can be expressed on a spectrum from mild to severe and often the less severe cases go undiagnosed and are invisible to the outsider. These conditions are still not well known by the general public and often the carriers themselves are unaware they may be carrying the gene mutation. I think this is one reason why some people thrive with exercise and keeping fit and others struggle and find it harder, more painful and take longer to recover. Some people can overcome the physical challenges through mental will and determination. But it may still take a greater toll on them than someone else. They may wonder why they are finding it comparatively difficult and think the answer lies in being more disciplined and working harder, when in fact it could be genetic causing some specific protein deficiency or toxic buildup that they have to contend with. It is not a level playing field when it comes to health and although the desire to improve ourselves and not give up is beneficial to everyone, the results may differ and its good to bring awareness to this so people don’t assume it is only an issue of willpower or self discipline they are dealing with.

Almost no one is actually affected by any of that. If you think it's your genetics then you are almost certain to be wrong. You likely just destroyed your metabolism trying to abstain from healthy food that you think is bad...

@@chronometer9931 I would say you don’t know much about any of those conditions in that case. Which is part of the issue - they can be largely invisible to those who know nothing about them. But the effects on the person with them can be significant.

@@universaltruth2025these connective tissues disorders, can they come and go in seasons or in periods? I have these weird periods where I suddenly take way longer to recover from gym and it feels like the tissue in my back spine and small muscles close to spine is going to break if i move and turn/twist my body and spine too fast. Ive had issues previously from back and neck pains after just turning my head to fast from left to right and it would create something that felt like an injury for many weeks before it would go away, but luckily i havent experienced this since i started heavy eating fats, huge load of fishoil and Collagen everyday, but still I feel like the connective tissue issue is right around the corner, since i stil feel these weird discomferts in the periods where i also experience longer recover time... My body has been so weird since 2019, weird joint pains, tooth pains, bone pains etc, doctors all clueless 🤷♂️

Wow! What a fantastic discussion! It reminds me that the art of discussion used to be taught in schools. Nowadays, it's another missing link in understanding the world and oneself. I really enjoy such reflections and podcasts like this one. Thank you so much for providing the opportunity to listen to the intelligent thoughts of thoughtful, beautiful, rational men. As a woman, I'm just curious about how your wives handle watching such transformations in you. Probably similar to how my husband copes with mine. I'm an experimenter myself, always digging for the truth that suits me. Though I used to suffer from hyper-generalization. It started with proper nutrition, low-fat, super clean, during puberty, which negatively affected my hormonal system. Then came five years of vegetarianism, followed by five years of veganism, then keto, and three years of a carnivore diet. After that, I was too fascinated with intermittent fasting and so on. Now, I've reached a point where I at least hope I can listen to my body. The balance of a mind always seeking something, including adventures, and the wisdom of an obedient body, has been found through a unifying soul. As a result, I've created many courses in Russian on mindful eating, which essentially uncover the pros and cons of each diet, from veganism to carnivore diets. They show people that you can do it this way or that way, or even in a completely different way, but in the end, it's important to find yourself, to listen to your body. Maybe it's time to start translating them into English, as the Russian-speaking audience isn't focused on this right now.
