If you are short on funds because you’ve spent all your money on pens, paper and ink and can’t afford a leather single pen case, those little glasses cases that come with reading glasses also work.

YES! on the ballpoint/'regular' pen. Q: "Do you have a pen I can borrow?" A#1 - If I know them, I'll ask if they use fountain pens. If they do, they can use a precious I have with me. If they don't, they get the regular pen. A#2: If I don't know them, they automatically get the regular pen, unless I'm at a pen club/show with other fountain pen people, then I'll consider on a one to one basis.

As someone new to fountain pens, I have gotten addicted almost immediately. Today as I was filling a brand new pen, with a number 6 nib....into a smallish Pelikan bottle, I noticed I had to rest the nib lightly to the bottom of the bottle, before it would reach the pickup hole.. I wondered what I would do once this bottle got a little lower...and to All my wonder, I clicked on this video and first off saw the Ink Miser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exactly what I needed. Thank you so much, without watching this video, I would never have known that this existed !!!!! That deserves a "Subscribe" IMO......Thank you so much.....

Great video Tom and some really great advice, thank you. I think it would be beneficial to mention ordinary pipe cleaners as a great cleaning accessory as well. They are especially useful when cleaning, and drying out converters. Best regards.

I always buy a package of 10 BIC or Papermate pens at the 99 Cents store and toss three or four of them in my backpack. Once in a while I also watch to see if the borrowed pen is returned. Success rate is poor!

True to Pilot, they make the best cheap plastic ballpoints. Before I realized I could use fountain pens for every day writing I would go out of my way to find their stick ballpoints in fine point.

I have a few decoys! One is a Uni Jetstream (that I genuinely enjoy writing with) and is my go-to ballpoint pen. The other is a Pilot G2. If I feel like someone is moderately trustworthy (like I know them, but I don't know how they'll treat a fountain pen), I'll often hand over my Platinum Preppy.

Funny how monteverde made that ink flush, since it's the monteverde pens that are the most prone to drying and skipping.

I like the capless fountain pens much better, even tho they cost a lot more I found them easier to use then the ones you shown in here. I have been using a fountain pen for 14 months and the capless fountain pens for 8 months so I much rather use the capless fountain pens

A thousand times NO on the last comment of keeping a ballpoint for other people to use. How do we expect to expand the hobby if people are unwilling to let people use fountain pens. Shame! Buy a pack of Varsity disposables for people to borrow or steal. $20 for a pack of 7. They're 100% reliable and bulletproof. We either expand the hobby or die.

I would only loan out a ballpoint. This is not negative about my friends but unless they have experience, the result will be a disaster for the pen and/or their attempt to use it. Also could embarrass them when they try to use it. That would be like loaning my Nikon to someone who has only used an iPhone.
