Up for a vote: will Fountain Valley vote to renew the contract with City Net to be the FVPD point of contact for assisting with the unhoused population?
Points to consider:
1)
The phone number given for public interaction is a message line, and the published number (714-457-6198) left no option to leave a message. An alternate number (714-202-7741)was tested from the podium. In both cases, the recorded line message was long, in 2 languages, and gave no option to jump the call tree and just leave a message.
2)
Some were surprised at the limited hours of operation, 8am to 3:30pm
These hours are what are contracted for. They also make sense in that most of the agencies that City Net interacts with on behalf of their clients are only available during this time window.
3)
In public comments, it was suggested that City Net could do more to educate the public on their work and efforts in Fountain Valley. Many people in various Fountain Valley related social network groups have misunderstandings about what our police handle as opposed to City Net, which some don't know about. The citizen would like to see City Net fielding general questions from the citizenry as opposed to having so many venue hosts explaining their existence and purpose.
4)
As was mentioned several times, this global problem is not something that we can "arrest our way out of."
