Thoroughly enjoy your 4ad content/suggestions and glad to see the series continue! I agree with you 100% about Twisted Final Fights packing quite the unexpecting punch for a product. I too, would put it as part of my top packet of add-ons. My favorite add-ons are: 1) Wayfarers & Adventurers - its really fun to combine both the traits and milestones together to create a backstory explaining the two. 2) Caverns of Chaos - love the theme and 6 missions that come in the book. The way I played it was that I connected the missions altogether (starting with the level 3 one) and made a campaign out of all 6 of them interpreting them as one unified story. 3) Monster Deck 1- love that these can be used right away or for level 2 dungeons. And I love the illustrations with them and that there is a visual to look at. On the Patreon for Andrea, he just released a sneak peak at Monster Deck 3 which will feature all new monsters that use the HCL format. 4) Digressions of the Devouring Dead- so much meat in this book and just too much good stuff to narrow it down to one specific thing. This book really does 4ad Basic and turn into 4AD AD&D. 5) Twisted Final Fights. I love that you can take all the Twisted books and in about 3 minutes of rolling and flipping create a thematic dungeon/story, and then just simply crack open Final Fights and find which boss would work best for the story that you are creating. Very intuitive and creatively freeflowing. Andrea also has released his short list for what new bosses will show up in volume two. Though I think that one is ways way. 6) Zealous Zouaves - an additional d66 table for character traits- that lean more towards the Legends / Classic Myth for inspired play. I also like the new mechanic that the party itself can have trait depending on which adventure society they belong to (and that many of these groups connected to patrons or story seeds that were found in Greedy Gifts of the Guildmaster- enough nibble and crunch to world build off of). 7) The quest decks- perfect expansions for the game that offer a lot of great things to the system. Probably my standout would be Castle Ravenstien for the theme and two bosses (also important because no werewolves or vampires are in Final Fights!) 8) Lantern Zines- again, really great products. Zine 2 is probably my favorite because it adds a lot of sandbox above world content. 9) Concise Classes- Dwarves are probably my favorite class in 4ad to play as, so all the new options with them are a candy store dream. I once played Dens and Burrows with a party of dwarves each from the different clans. We were very OP and went through that book like a lawnmower over grass :P Looking forward to the next installment

Well I thought I had enough books for now and then you introduce me to Twisted Final Fights. Looks like it might be the best one yet in terms of adding flavour and making a dungeon feel distinctive. Thanks for covering, Daniel!

I asked about a boxed set that bundles a "core" lay experience, and Andrea told me that the POD model with Lulu works for him because of complications with production and shipping from within the EU. This next part I can't verify, but I suspect the next version (a reorganization, not a rewrite) hardback may have extended material, making it a fuller "core" experience. Then maybe we'll see the Twisteds combined, and so on. I'd love to see 4AD as a proper modular dungeon crawl boardgame, with tables converted to cards. That would be awesome!

We really need a version 2 of the core book. Version 1 is so bad!

I haven't played in awhile and have been itching lately to get back into it. Might have to get those two books. I've been wanting to mess around with the overland travel Pocket Lands did a few years ago too. They really need to create a 2.0 of the main book that organizes things better and fixes some of the confusing things in the book.

Wow! The art in the Boss book is incredible!!! Thx for the review! On Internet it was hard to see what was inside! Thx for the review and the updated Buyers guide! Would it be necessary to buy Four Against the Abyss or is there way to scale your character withouth it?

I was wondering if you (or anyone readign this) have a list of good non 4AD products to augment the sessions into a wider narrative? (solo GM tools / charts I guess that would work well with 4AD)I have made a region with a capital city and my party runs out of small guild in it but lookign for ways to add in more extra events/story rp generations, thematic quest generation etc. I have grown quite attatched to my group of now 8 members.

I will be covering a book tomorrow you might want to look into, and soon I'll be covering two solutions for linking adventures via overland exploration.

I noticed you didn’t recommend any of the pre-made 4AD adventures, such as Caves of the Kobold Slave Masters. Is that because they aren’t very good, or because they would be better to purchase after getting your recommended basic set of books?

@@TheDungeonDive I found it there and ordered it. Thank you.
I'm not big into boardgames, or in this case, P&P RPGs, but I'm looking into D&D, creating characters, a story, something that's not just killing monsters. And from what I know & understand, there doesn't seem to be a lot about creating potions, don't think this is an official thing in D&D (please correct me someone if I'm wrong), but this exact detail is a real thing in 4aD. Is it possible to take a closer look into this, there doesn't seem to be any videos about this specificly. Also, there seems to be a more than just romantic aspect in that as well, a very sexy-time thing, seducing & whatever, how does that play into a RPG in general, without becoming a joke or borderline Hentai? Both are part of that add-on I'm talking about, "4aD: The Courtship of the Flower Demons", it's even called a "romantic supplement" for 4aD, like this is more important than the potion-thing (alchemy?). Well, both sound interesting enough for an RPG... 😅
