Hey Scott I was trying to follow your paint guide for the 'eavy Metal series for my Dark Angels. But I have the old Space Marines (not Primaris). Is it just me, or is recess shading with black paint a bad idea to try with the older Space Marines? Seems the proportions are kinda off and its a lot harder to recess shade them, as opposed to the new Primaris Marines. I feel like ink would be a better call for them. Thanks!
@Miniac

@@xMorentz I got the idea to use a paint from an old GW book. Anything is possible if you have the ability to pull it off. That being said, mixing some black ink and black paint would probably be better for old marines and primaris alike.

I really love the idea of the tentacle coming through the base boards, this is perfect for a fantasy pirate theme or even a more sinister Cthulhu type setting. I'd be really interested to see how you would do a batch of bases, perhaps as many as a dozen, to stick to the theme but make them all unique. Another great video man.

Mate, your previous pronunciation of UHU-glue was spot on. It's a German company and the German language does not add that "y"-sound to the beginning of the "U" (Admittedly, I was kind of surprised that you pronounced it correctly in the other video). Fun fact, an Uhu is actually a kind of owl that lives all over Europe and Asia, including here in Germany. Also: Great base ideas!

I didn't realise it was a German company, so shall have to decide how I pronounce it next time I need to say the word (I live in the UK). Though I'm wondering how 'sepia' is usually pronounced in the USA now - it's see-pee-a here.

I love that your uncle participated in this. I had a nice chuckle, thank you, Bob! Btw: The "Oohoo" pronounciation is the correct one. It's the German word for eagle owl and the company is German. And in Germany they even sometimes use an eagle owl as a mascot.

My favorite part was the idea of combining the Dimensional Magic with Plaguebearer Flesh to create rain puddles. That was genius to me and I used it on my Harlequin bases. Have you tested how well that combination works compared to Nurgle's Rot? I wonder if they'd be interchangeable or if each has their use.

For that roll board you got there, watch a few videos how to use a Cavarola 'yes that's a pasta board...' it might teaches you how to create a few weird pasta looking objects. might allows you to make cool shoulder pads or armor plate scales as an addition to rat tails and tentacles.

When doint bases I always find myself lacking not ideas, but instead the materials to accomplish them. Especially more complex bases need more and more additional stuff as I always go for a theme in bases and try to be elaborate about it. My struggle is focussed around finding the right supplies for the job and more often than not it discourages me, leaving my bases less interresting than they could be.

Quick tip for skulls on bases if you have streaking grime at your disposal... paint them bright white.. hit them with streaking grime, and then a dab on the highest point with a q-tip soaked in mineral spirits.. once its dry hit it with some seraphim sepia ( watered down if you dont want the skull to be too grimey ) .. and you'll have a super nice looking, dirty, scenery skull.
