After 5134 miles on my 2020 Float X2 it finally gave up the ghost about 3 weeks ago. I have my numbers that I was using, but was thinking this would help more with volume reducers as my DPX2 felt great on my Ripmo and I want my newly returned "2024" Float X2 to ride the same, but have more support for bigger hits (even though I can tell they reused my air can, oh well, the oil side is new. It's always good to do more research even if you've done this for 20+ years. Thanks for posting the video and I hope you get yours back soon.

That missing 4mm of stroke is from the bottom out bumper. You can deflate the shock and emulate a hard bottom out. Not that the 4mm matters. Sag is just a guide anyway.

You need to set the sag using the 60mm stroke figure. That last few mm of stroke is the bottom out bumper.

Well, your right or I am right not sure makes sense to not measure that since it’s non usable. Kinda hilarious Pink bike copied me and made a shock setup video on not to measure that part too. 😆

@@OtterMTBtech Well, I can tell you that when the shock manufacturers say a certain percentage of sag, they mean that percentage of the whole advertised shock stroke. If you were to let all the air out and hammer on the shock, you’d get the full 60mm of stroke.
@notsoenduro
11 ай бұрын
Actually they say of full travel … nothing to do with stroke length
@Shawn-in-da-Canyon
11 ай бұрын
@@notsoenduro No, sag is always set using shock shaft stroke length, not rear wheel travel. 30% of 60mm = 18mm of shock shaft length. That’s what you should set sag at. That’s with all settings in the open position. Then you adjust those settings based on the PSI needed to get 30% sag. Those Fox recommended settings are a very good starting point. But, I may be understanding you wrong. Anyway it should be based on the 60mm figure.
@notsoenduro

@@Shawn-in-da-Canyon no you’re spot on. My confusion is on the terminology. My bike (Spec Enduro) is 170mm f & r travel. The shock is 205x60mm. So 18mm sag is correct. Fox Manual doesn’t have 205x60mm. It lists 55,65,70mm… it also says set sag based on “full shock travel” not stroke length.

Insanely good video. My confusion lies with when you had LS and HS compression open and found the sweet spot in your rebound, what are you feeling? Also, when it comes to dialing in HS and LS comp what are you feeling in the bike? I have basically set all my settings to the Fox recommendations (give or take). I ride a variety of different terrains and I'm not sure if my suspension is dialed or if I have just worked out how to use the bike with those settings. I want plush but planted. I want grip around berms but want it to dance over rocky tech. I guess there is no specific setting for ALL terrain

The Fox settings are usually close. I was trying to show people how to fish not fish not give them fish. If you want the golden feeling it’s a mid stroke hang out. Try this go full fast rebound both and middle compression

Thank you for this great video. I recently bought a Cube one55 SLX with a 2023 Series FLOAT X2 2pos-Adj. I think it is an OEM version. The bike itself is relatively light 14.7 kgs. I'm with biking gear 78 kgs. Mostly I ride mellow trails in the local forests, but yearly few times I visit some bike parks here in EU: Austria, Slovakia and Czech Republic. In these parks I prefer blue and red lines. Do you think your guide is applicable for this version as well? What are Your recommendations? Thank you for your feedback in advance.
@OtterMTBtech

Same principles one adjustment at a time. If I’m going to a bike park, just crank the high-speed compression. A few clicks extra maybe a a slower rebound . For your shock just add some blue knob minus some red knob for the bike park.

I can’t remember exactly the clicks on the older one, but the range was allot bigger. I suspect they narrowed the range since it was allot easier to make the wrong adjustments. New or old version they work amazing when setup right

Far out … first time I’ve seen it explained well. So sag is set off stroke length and not shock travel (as explained by every other video) ? @ottermtbtech I have the float X2 on the enduro and was setting the 30% measurement off 170mm of rear travel… nothing to do with stroke length.
@OtterMTBtech

It’s debatable on which one to use. My theory is to use the effective stroke. The x2 has massive bottom out bumper so it only has 55 stroke on Enduro. I’m not Fox engineer I may be wrong. Shocks not overly sensitive to air pressure. The compression takes over

The issue that I have with my Factory Float X2 2022 series is that I need to close fully the LSC to be able to climb without swinging on the bike. I ride Ibis Ripmo, so the DW link is not swinging-like platform. Is it a problem with the shock or I need to work on the adjustment? (SAG is set correctly)

@@seatpostman Friendly Ripmo owner here. You probably know this but the Fox Factory Float X2 packaged with Ripmo V2 has a different tune than off-the-shelf X2. The shock has Ibis’ Traction Tune, with lighter compression and rebound damping to suit the kinematics of DW-link. (Yes, I plagiarized that last sentence from a review. YT won’t let me cite the article.) My simple understanding is Ripmo owners need to turn up our compression and rebound damping more than other Float X2 owners to achieve similar performance. Hope that helps, and that you already got this solved.

@WildMidwest1

There is no 4 digit code on my Fox Factory Float X2 (2021 model) that came on my Ripmo V2 in February. Ibis distributes specially tuned X2 shocks with reduced compression and rebound damping for DW-link’s unusual kinesmatics. There is only a QR code box at the base of the shock near the linkage eyelet. It is not easy to photograph. Good luck to Ripmo owners with finding identical shock replacements!
