Thank you very much for the compliment and link! We appreciate it! As for cpm cru wear I agree completely. It is one of my favorite steels as well. I feel like it holds an edge quite a bit better than 3v without losing too much toughness and while not being harder to sharpen. Take care and stay safe! Maarten

@@HedlessHorsman Im very curious myself for the steel. To me it just seems like an better steel. When looking on the edge retention/thoughtness chart, the thoughtness loss seems small. Mike Stewart from bark river also says this. I also found a chart on corrosion resistance where the cw was a little worse than 3v. I havent had any luck finding a video on youtube comparing cruwear and 3V head 2 head. It would be awsome if dbk did such a test. A little sad to destroy 2 such high end knifes tho🙄.

Thanks for the vid Mr Waco. Kept thinking the light was gonna run out but it came out alright. The disposal of the carcass part was a little dark, but that’s hunting almost always at dusk am not lucky at dawn. Anyways the knife looked up to the task and the buck was very nice indeed, I noticed their hides are starting to get thick as well over there in Hokkaido. No hunt in Colorado this year for me but am glad to see you bag such nice specimen, when it came charging in to 20 meters I knew it was meat 🍖. Keep them coming please!

Beautiful stag Dr., and thanks for the video on the ext-1 cruwear. Looks like it held up well. Also supposed to be slight stain resistant. I sharpened mine as out of the box ok but not super sharp, hope I didn’t end up with a microbevel. Mine is curly maple. I hope to try out my ext1 cruwear on a US whitetail next weekend

I did get a whitetail this weekend and used mine to field dress, and then to fully process the whole deer. Stayed sharp to the end, and oh yes btw it did great on backstraps 😋. My friends that helped me were very impressed with the sharpness and liked overall size and feel of the knife. This is now my go-to hunting knife, even though I am a hobby knife maker myself and have made 30+ carbon steel knives. I just love the steel properties and form factor of this one.

The front end of the backstrap has another muscle connected to it. He always pulls it off and just takes the backstrap. You could keep that other piece and use it for hamburger or sausage but it is a scrappy piece with lots of silver skin so kind of hard to use.

@virtuovice

Factory made Scandi grind turns low saber convex grind after my water stone sharpening. If its blade thickness is 3mm, its apex angle stays small enough after my convexing. Bark River's steels are all great and I don't care which it is. The progressive blade bending from the handle is the key why Fox River EXT-1 makes the best deer knife for me. Thanks.

The 4mm thick versions are heavy and suitable for power cuts needed for dressing a big stag. But their handles are too thick for pinch holding and I grind them down myself to the same thickness as the ones of the 3mm thick versions.
