Foynes is located on the Shannon estuary in County Limerick in the southwest of Ireland. This is the location of the Foynes Flying Boat Museum. Between 1937 and 1945, the Shannon estuary at Foynes was used as a flying boat departues, and arrivals hub, for air traffic going back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean.
The most famous of the flying boats to frequent Foynes was the Yankee Clipper. A replica of this amazing flying machine can be viewed at the museum. Well worth a visit. Lots of interesting information.
