Happy New Year. That is also up to luck and unpredictable to a certain extent. Rendering on a powerful graphics card, each of the short clips took from an hour to days in just rendering time. It also means tweaking and redoing a lot of things when running into problems.

Question. Do the fractals get the colors assigned in the equation or are the colors added as a visual effect?

Good question. Depends on what you mean. The equation itself defines the color. But only in the sense that points have different values at different locations, which is used to assign a completely arbitrary color. So that means what overall colors it has is up to creative choice, but where these colors appear then is done by the algorithm. It would be quite impossible to paint something by hand that´s infinite anyway. :)

Sure! A fractal is a subset of Euclidean space with a fractal dimension that strictly exceeds its topological dimension. 😃 Just kidding. Fractals are mathematical algorithms that are self-similar. Simple rules that result in infinite detail and complexity. (They also exist roughly in nature. Like if a leaf consists of small leaves of the same shape. Or have a look at a Romanesco broccoli.)
