I absolutely get where your coming from. I have bottles I purchased and only used them one time because I was too busy chasing down that next bottle. Sometimes I think researching and anticipating new fragrances is the real thrill. Once you own it now it's old news and you need a new frag to fantasize owning.

Thanks for waking me up... fragrance addiction is very real. I own 5 Niche frags out of a collection of 66 Designer bottles....The last niche i bought was Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. While its a beautiful frag, buying it was not worth the argument that i had with my wife. Again, thanks for the wake up....

It is an addiction without a doubt my bro, I lost a lot with my fucking addiction,I'm very thankful I was able to stop after I meet this amazing girl I now live with,I still love my frags but I've sold a lot during the past 5 months, I now spend time and money on me and my woman and my house. I think 10 good versatile bottles is more than enough, I mean I'm still at 60 or 70 bottles as of now but I've sold over 60 already. Thanks for this great video that I'm sure a lot of us need to watch.

Mr. Zayas, thanks for the contribution here, like your videos and you also led by your personal example. My compromise is to continue with getting opulent and luxury male/unisex niche scents, but only as samples, I have my dozen of full niche bottles. Owning all those woody oud, oriental, amber musky incense tobacco dark scents is great but not by the litres. I bought pure oud oils too, where they sell tem anyhow by milligrams and even the "full" bottle is just 3 ml. So now I am over 220 types of niche fragrance and oud oil samples, which cost me the equivalent of 4-5 full bottles but that did not kill my account.

You're so right. I had a strong feeling of agitation the other night which wouldn't go away until I dropped £70 on some fragrances. It's addictive like gambling; getting blind buys and experimental fragrances which turn out to be unwearable in the never-ending search for the ultimate fragrance. I have ten fragrances right now and already that's too many. Wish I'd just bought some reliable and versatile scents instead.

This video really helped me out a lot. I had to watch it about 20 times. I remember last year I was just searching for a new fragrance to replace Acqua di Gio. I also owned La Nuit de L'homme. Well, like most of us here experienced, I fell down the rabbit hole of shopping addiction and collectionism. I must have purchased over 100 bottles in that year. I've sold off or given them away. I'm now down to 25 and still feel like I have too many. I can't stand to get rid of some of them but also get anxiety seeing them collect dust. I want to get down to less than 10. I'm selling them off.

Definitely can relate. I'm in the process of selling at least 75% of my collection (from 200+ bottles) and every time I feel like making another purchase I watch this video. And the comment section almost feels like a support group 🙂

This is exactly what I said in my last video I made in regards to myself. Thank god I had the self awareness and financial intelligence to not only never buy full niche bottles, but to see the high of frag addiction wasn't in the frag itself but the buying of it. I realized 1 night looking at my collection I was never going to be satisfied cause I always said if I get that 1 I'll be happy and I never was. Having a kid on the way helped with this too as I had another life to take care of. My advice to anyone reading this is if the fragrance is more exciting to buy than wear, you likely have a problem unless u straight don't like it. My 2 cents

This is definitely a must watch video for any person who is or has already embarked upon buying fragrances. After becoming single again after a number of years ......I decided to look for a good fragrance to get back into the dating game. Like many guys in the same situation...I looked for the trusty old fragrance that I used in my previous single status life.......This was my wake up call on how things had changed over the years and the realisation that my old trusty was now regarded as an "old man" scent. I decided to watch a few "best men's fragrance" reviews on you tube ........This proved to be a great way to get wised up on which fragrances were the ones to buy. ....At this point ....my intention was to buy the best possible fragrance that would be a good signature/date night scent I headed for a well know department store and purchased what I thought would fulfill my goal .........This. experience encouraged me to watch many you tube fragrance reviews........and also encouraged me to want the best and most popular for each season. The rest is probably predictable. Thank you for this video......It has made me realise that even at this early stage of buying fragrances.....I now own all that I need in inside the 15 bottles that I own...... Out of the 15....I only blind bought one.....and that one is the only one that I regret buying. . It made me smell of baby powder and seasoned diapers......You may be able to guess it's name. 15 bottles is more than enough.....I really like 14 of the bottles and will rotate wearing them all throughout the seasons........I know at this stage that it is super tempting to keep buying. ...in search of the next greatest. Prior to the existence of "you tube"....most people would own just one to three fragrances......But now...there are so many influencers feeding their viewers addiction...... Like most things......moderation is the best......no living human could ever wear a collection of 100 plus bottles in a regular fashion.........It is much more enjoyable and stress free to just own your favourites .....You will enjoy your fragrances much more if you give them your attention and not just stack them away unused.

Watching this video again, I think what you're getting at hints to underlying societal problems of commercialism, materialism, narcissism and low self acceptance. Almost as if to say, our self worth is reduced to the worth of juice in a bottle that marketers propagandize. Addiction? Yes! To what? Self worth. Consumers are humans first and perfume houses, like any other business, appeal to our basic and emotional needs. Fragrances are in high demand only because people think so low of themselves. The price humans pay just to feel good about their self is limitless
@TheBottomNote

That's kinda what it is sir. Comparing your self worth to a freaking bottle. I learned before I got too lost. This is a mere element, not what defines me. Many things can become addictive. Some of these guys live for this. Almost insane! Normal conversation is impossible when someone is quoting notes and always fragrance talk. Step back and see yourself is what I tried here. If it's a description of the man in the mirror then I hoped it would enlighten that man.

I would even like to take it down to maybe 10 winter and 5 summer frags, And you are also right about what the ladies like. I have worn MANY high end niche frags to work with zero compliments. But when I wear Issey Miyake, the ladies love that shit. Great vid my man.

I'm just disgusted with some of these guys throwing insults at each other. Respect each persons comments! Bottom notes is a grown man saying something that's real like gambling, alcohol, and sex addictions. Some of these people are giving their opinions and they're entitled to them. However, don't put anyone's business on front street or even call people out of their name. That just shows how immature and childish some people really are. This is not a to make money for most of us, this is a hobby so treat as such. I've been a collector all my life starting with baseball cards, to djay equipment, to cars, and to scents but I will never take it personal when someone has a different take then I have unless they're messing with my family, finances, or property. Don't just listen, ingest what the man is saying and keep it movin. Respect each person comments and let it be. There is more serious things in the world. Nice video Bottom notes as always.

I think you bring up some really valid points man. But I think there's a flip side, if you're a collector and it's what you love doing and you pay your bills, why not collect? I have been addicted to drugs and alcohol and I can tell you first hand that this is a lot safer lol and a lot less detrimental to your life. I think the problem is new reviewers who think that they have to keep up with the big guns. But this same video could be made about sneaker collecting, gun collecting, card collecting etc. Ultimately life is very short and we have to do what makes us happy, and if this makes someone happy, then I say go for it. But never at the expense of being a responsible adult, that can pay rent or mortgage and take care of their kids and pay their bills.

I can totally understand how buying fragrances gets expensive. Watching scent influencers doesn’t help. I stopped at 50 bottles. Only because they all start to smell alike. You really on need 2-6 bottles. So if you don’t want them, start separating them out, pick your top 5. Sell or give the rest away. Stay Strong!

Wooo!! This needed to be said! I haven't reached the addiction point, but I have started a collection. I told myself 15 will be my limit and I'll have to go through a bottle or sell a bottle in order to replace it! Im just trying to build a collection that represents me and how I want to smell. Some people have 80+ and the sad part about it is that they can tell you which ones smell similar or share the same profiles! I refuse to fall victim, thanks for this video!

+John Troyer I feel the exact same way. Aventus is the devil (especially the coveted Z01 batch...my precious...lol), because if I had never discovered niche, I probably wouldn't be on the holy grail quest for the ultimate scent. For most of my college years, I just wore Dior's Fahrenheit and Chanel Pour Monsieur. Then it was Versace Man Eau Fraîche year round for the past seven years or so, and that worked for me, and I was fine with it. But all of a sudden, after trying Aventus, my quest for the fragrance holy grail began, and now I have over 40 bottles. What the heck happened?! Always have to remember that essences aren't essentials, lol.

i had to come back and watch this again. I will soon be coming up on the 8 year anniversary of me getting into fragrances and i still have alot of the bottles i bought that winter. Thankfully I was very calculating in how i went about buying, so after awhile i would trade or sell something to buy a new one, got almost all of my niche in decants, etc. And I bet i still spent 3 grand on frags in a 3 year window. In 2013 my 1st son was born and i had other things to worry about and i think i've only bought a few decants the past 5 yrs. I dont know that its the wearing of the frag thats the addiction, but the rush of the purchase that does it. I always felt an adrenaline rush waiting on that package the day i knew it was coming. I think thats where the addiction lies, in the buying, not the wearing of it.

Revisiting this years later and it's true. Anything can become an addiction. Fragrance is not excluded from this list and the amount people pay for bottles could be used for something else that is not beneficial. It makes more sense to just have ur favorite fragrances and that's it and it's so true. The cheaper fragrances tend to get the compliments. Not the smelly ouds haha

Wow, I do understand the addiction part of it, I call it a collectors itch, thats a buzz which can never be satisfied but it also differentiates in many perspectives like from collection we get down to ingredients and then to the quality ingredients and then trying to make your own fragrance and it is addicting no doubt about it, but if that addiction and knowledge can be shared it might really help a lot of people choosing to buy products which are great like a cheapie 4711 to a quality cheapie nautica voyage to something which is an extortion called as roja dove which signifies beauty in the bottle and brand more than the juice. So i think yes its an addiction but better than many other addictions cause its also helping people decide and choose. Just a personal opinion.

An outstanding opinion sir. Breaks it down in actual stages. There is a level of self fulfillment but should not define the person. Life has so much more to offer. As any phase, as this is once a person has obtained a suitable amount of self gratification, move on for now your cup is full. Gluttony takes over and you feed and feed never achieving anything past a certain point.

This spoke right to the center of me. I have 30+ bottles and I'm constantly looking out for more, a better smell, a cuter bottle, "the scent!". He's right I'm never going to smell better than I do right now. I'm taking the thirty day challenge.

I fell into that Niche thing and tricked myself into "thinking" i had better shit due to the cost. all bullshit. But some have lost man. You know them but not their real situations. 30 days is tough to that impulsive gotta have it guy who is desperate for the perfect scent. That scent that will make a woman weak is all crap. Thay just havent realized it yet. Take care bro. Really good hearing from you. BTW, been gone for a minute. Could care less about watching certain videos but they still watch mine for some reason. Incredibly well executed video on this topic. You hit so many key points on fragrance addiction and I love the point about how most people don't like the niche stuff so those don't get the compliments. It's us crazy "frag heads" who get bored of the common, the common isn't doing it for us anymore, so we step way out into weird territory and it gets to the point we're only wearing the stuff for ourselves. What a waste! I'm told I smell the best when I'm not even trying or it's something I've grown so accustomed to I forget I have it on. Thanks for sharing this video, I'm sure it will help a lot of people.

i made a list of the top perfumes that i had to have and i almost have them all, but what i feel is sick at times coz the temptation is too damn strong. i really understand what you mean by this video and this addiction is costing me a shitload of money i could spend elsewhere, chanel diors and d&gs dont come cheap. and i have decided to buy one last fragrance, the angel men, and that will be it. and ill take up a thirty days challenge and i wont buy it till then, but i do love watching perfume reviews and they relax me, make me smile, its just so beautiful to hear people describing them. in this damn disturbing world where everything is fake, at least a hobby can put a smile to our faces, but yes again, addiction is bad. i really admire your words and ill put a stop to this addiction:( thank you sir

Even though I barely own 10 bottles, this is a wakeup call of some sorts... Especially on the part of "if you have leftover money or some extra buck from somewhere, are you already thinking about the next fragrance you can buy with it?". That struck me because I was doing it right at this moment. The best fragrance video hands down on youtube.

So glad man you stopped at this video. 1 year, 4 seasons. Some reviewers do a top 20 designer and niche for a 3 month period. Do you seriously believe they will cycle 40 frags in 3 months? Liars each and every 1 of them.
@Xozzen

Considering they wear one fragrance each day, they get less than 3 wearings out of each of them. And that is their top list, meaning they should have some other fragrances they are wearing aswell. I don't know who would believe that.

The word "Collector" or having a collection of something is an obsession, and in most cases addiction. The only reason someone should collect something is to be able to sell it later for more than what he paid for. But this doesn't apply to fragrances because they lose their value as soon as you start spraying the damn thing. It's just wasting money when it comes down to the fragrance game
@DMaster81
9 жыл бұрын
BeautyofScent I disagree to a point. Someone can be a collector and still collect something that doesn't increase in value. Good idea? No, but I don't think the term "collector" is relegated to things that appreciate. I will say that I believe some people on here hide behind the term "collector" so it doesn't seem like they have a problem.

BeautyofScent I think in some ways, most of us humans are habitual. If you put your mind into something, you will more than likely keep at it. If i go to the beach tomorrow and see a nice rock, then return the week after to look for another, it gives me this (sometimes a FALSE) sense of purpose, like 'i m accomplishing something. I think this plays a big part in any repetitive/habitual offense. It isn't just fragrances, it's many things in life. Some of us don't know it/see it until it's too late. One word of advise though, I think it is best to focus on ourselves, calling others out by names or whatnot just makes us look a tad hypocritical. -HP

+Kesler Sanon I hear that, man. I feel the exact same way. I "only" have about 40 fragrances, but at least 8 of them were niche frags I acquired online or in trade in the last month. Just a few short months ago, I would have deemed many of these same fragrances too expensive for me to consider copping. What the hell am I doing?! Definitely time to chill.

Glad you took this positive. It offended many. I can afford more as well sir but then what? It's all storage and a poor investment. Find ones that work best for different occasions and move on with your life. Buy suits and experience new adventures ands you smell great with a story to tell as fragrance I'd only 1 aspect of your makeup. It certainly doesn't define ones self worth.

Man! TOO REAL! - I use to just appreciate smell goods, had maybe 2-3 joints. Started watching these damn reviews a couple months ago, now Im gettin like bottles every week. Fuck this shit yo... Still did the videos. Still dig the smells - but some people have more money tied up in a fragrance collection than their retirement. That's whack.

Nice video, but what a strange coincidence-I just started getting rid of some colognes. I don't have too many imo (I've had 15 bottles maximun at a time), and still I think that's too many because colognes are meant to be worn, not just stored in a drawer or cabinet. I gave a couple of colognes to men in my family, and I'm thinking of limiting my colognes to 5 because I have bottles whose content hasn't gone down not even by 20% in 2 years. and that makes really no sense. Now, going through a month without wearing any fragrances? I don't know about that. Colognes are therapeutic and there's nothing wrong about indulging yourself. ;-)

Good afternoon, I really took the time and watched y4 video on fragrance addiction. I have 2 admit it, I was a fragrance junkie! You broke it down bro, I have close to 75 high and low end fragrances. I saw and heard the reviews and on I went, I would buy 2 or 3at a time. I would of course wear my favorite when ever I went out. I also love fashion, I would start buying frags instead of clothes or shoes or whatever. I found myself trolling the malls just 2 go to the cologne stores lol.But I find myself now in control whenever I go shopping. I personally am the official fraghead of my family, none of my siblings can touch me. But I really appreciate you keeping it 💯 bro, keep cranking out y4 🎥s because nobody is really touching that subject. Peace Anthony
