After watching episodes 25 and 26, i was like wow 🤩 Now you have come to the perfect blend of animation and documentation. Every element supports or better say serves the storytelling. The score, the time lapse, the overlays, all blends to a harmonic narration. Brillant. You have come a long way developing this style. And what can i say about the GT ? Your level of craftsmanship is masterful. Impressing as always. All these comments here are more than enough proof. Must have been so satisfying to put the doors back in position, even if it is just temporary. The shape of the car keeps coming back. And can any GT owner withstand to upgrade the engine to a more powerful one ? Some vintage cars just look faster than they are in reality. Why not carefully step up to a 5 speed gearbox and injection engine for less fuel consumption and better torque and power without changing the character of the car. Can‘t wait for the next episode !
@GT1900garage

Superthanks for the comment. Yes, "Why not carefully step up to a 5 speed gearbox and injection engine for less fuel consumption and better torque and power without changing the character of the car. " -is EXACTLY the point of the upgrade. I have plans to travel this car on the long Finnish countryside roads, and maybe visit continental Europe with it...So therefore I wanted to upgrade the engine without ruining the GT vibes....

Thanks. Actually that is very good question. First my plan was to get myself a GT to drive...But I do like working on the car to be honest. I do have my Mini for a summer wheels, so I'm not in a hurry. Also, due to the channel, I have another hobby as a side product.. Honestly, when I noticed what was the actual condition of the car....I would have liked to return this to seller personally....But, it is what it is. I paid s**t load of money for shipping it overseas, so shipping it back would have cost me double...and at this point I was already dismantled the whole car... So I had two option, renovate the car and have something for my money, or ditch the project and lose the money....And without car being such a wreckage, I wouldn't have this KZitem channel... so I think it was a win after all...

@GT1900garage

I don´t know. But what is sure that this version is now more sturdy and rigid that the original ones...Pretty much all supporting parts are remade with 1.25mm steel. Not sure about the fit and finish, but it is sturdy alright...

big tip / reminder : when you shorten the getrag shifter bracket take also the chance to put the shifter out of the center. this is because of the angle of motor and trany hanging in the GT otherwise the shifter will be out of the middle of the hole

Thanks for the tip. True, there is a different tilt in the GTs engine.... I have a great tutor with me on this task. He has done it before few times so I have someone to back me up here...

I hope the valve cover from the 1,9 engine will fit on the new engine from Rekord E 2,2 i. The original valve cover has a step under the engine bulkhead sealing.

Thanks for the comment, it SHOULD fit, but lets see. As I have stated before, this is my first Opel, so I am not fully aware of all the differences. Next week I start with the engine, then we know...

I'm in awe of the level of perfection carried out to restore this beautifully designed vehicle. I have one reservation though: I hope the uprated 2.2lt motor is a "drop in" that does not require body/chassis modification. It seems to me to be a pity to expend this amount of time and energy on a classic car to not make it original. I know it's a personal choice and no criticism is implied or intended.

No problem. It is drop-in swap, and no modifications are needed to the car it self. However, my GT is not THAT original, I have made lot of small changes to the car, so in that sense upgrading the engine/transmission is not a sacrilegious act. The 1.9 engine is somewhat under powered, and especially original 4 speed transmission keeps revs up in normal highway speed.. I am planning to drive this car a lot, so I am searching for the optimal solution for enjoyable driving experience. AND I am keeping the original 1.9 and restore it so car can be returned to its original state if needed.

Those 2.2 CIH engines is in BAD need for a more free flowing intake manifold and a sportier camshaft. I ran one in my old Ascona ~1995 with turbo and ca 430hp, Enem X1 camshaft and home made intake manifold. This one revved easily to 7500rpm, with stock manifold and camshaft all the power ended at 5500rpm.

Well done! I always enjoy your videos very much. It makes me want to do the bodywork of my cars much better, especially as you do not have very expensive tools. Most of your tools I have as well, but the bodywork I do is mainly a „bodge job“! I think with patience I could do better. Unfortunately I can’t find the box with the SOLEX carburetor parts for a 1900 Opel I promised to send. I hope I will find them eventually! Best regards!

I just wouldn't have the patience for this. I'd have just shelled out the 300 euros for reproduction panels. But you do amazing work - of that, there is no doubt! I've often dreamed about putting a hot little V6 in a GT.... like a Supercharged Pontiac 3.8 or, failing that, at least the little Ford "Cologne" V6. I believe that's a 2.7 litre? But they do make speed parts for the Cologne over in Europe like headers, 4-barrel intakes and such. A friend had a Mustang II over here that had the Ford V6 and while not speedy by any stretch, was still fun to drive. Would make something the size of a GT a little more exciting. Digging the Mini we get to see peeking out in some shots. I've a soft-spot for them, too. Used to see a fair few of them over here in Western Canada.... but as if they were made out of sugar..... you get them wet too many times and they dissolve. You must be a fan of "Project Binky".

Thanks for the comment.. Actually, I have bought couple of repro panels, but I did not use them since they are made from 0.7mm steel....That is even thinner that car originally had (about 0,85mm). So just for shaping, easier welding and especially for strength --> I use 1mm minimum and usually 1,25mm steel. I am not big fan of V8 conversion, but V6 sounds more appropriate to GT. My friend is restoring also a GT that was imported from US and he is converting it back to original. I did my Mini 15 years ago, and it was my first project. It was relatively easy, lot of panels and structures had to be made, but they were all straight corners... This GT is my second attempt to do my self a summer ride.....

@@GT1900garage Well, you're doing an amazing job! I can't wait to see the finished product. I did not know the reproduction panels are so thin!

Yes, that is a shame.. It is impossible to weld with my skillset, and anyway 0,7mm seems very flimsy...

Immaculate work, as always, and another informative and entertaining video: even my daughter enjoyed it, and she has no interest in car restoration. Also as usual, I admire your command of idiomatic English: how many people in Finland would know the meaning of 'the whole shebang'. Best wishes.

Great to hear! My greetings to the such well raised offspring... I think Finland and its broadcasting pioneers made a significantly good decision in the 50's. When majority of the European countries decided to dub foreign movies and TV- series, in Finland we went for subtitles... Movies sounded as they were intended, and as a by-product it improved BOTH, reading and English..
