I find it very interesting how in many occasions during the piece Francaix actively wrote for conversations between the Solo clarinet and the orchestral clarinets, almost like a clarinet duet/trio.

BRAVO!! Great clarinet mastery and the orchestra make some stunning colours.

Very delightful work for listeners, (and lots of work for the soloist!) Love the serious vs comedy and colorful clarinet and orchestral writing throughout. In the finale, if Harpo Marx played clarinet, he would sound like this.

8:00 Mvt 2 13:40 Mvt 3 18:45 Mvt 4 I think this might be my favorite concerto. Francaix here is a lot like Poulenc to my ear, just more playful and profound.

Francaix would often fill in and play with Poulenc for his Concerto for Two Pianos, so I don't doubt they picked each other's ear from time to time. Both were influenced by Ravel.

First movement is somewhat reminiscent of An American in Paris, I think. Romanza movement of the Poulenc is pretty profound. Both are great clarinet show cases. The Francaix should be performed more often. The degree of difficulty is way up there.

I like the sound of a German clarinet. Arpeggios ripple better. Better suited to this piece, also. More like a Pan pipe.

It is not a German (Oehler) clarinet though. ;) It's Boehm with a roller in the right hand F/C and Ab/Eb keys, and what appears to be a low F correction key in the left hand. I would be curious to try this setup, but the point remains of course - her sound is just lovely.

Yes; I think this is a Reform Boehm. Inspiring playing! :-)
