Lyon is a huge city, and we ride for seven miles through hectic city traffic before finding some peace outside metropolitan Lyon. We find our way back to the ViaRhôna, through deep forests and excellent views of the river. The hills of the Bugey begin to rise as we follow a northeast trajectory, and the landscapes are magnificent as we reach Hières-sur-Amby and our excellent hotel for the night. But we are tired. As the title suggests, this is where we decide to say goodbye to France, and we elect to take a train to Geneva in the town of Ambérieu-en-Bugey, just a half day ride north, and in the morning that’s where we head. By the end of the day we are in Switzerland, our cycling trip through France now in our rear-view mirror. Au revoir, France!
