A thought for Michel Berger who would have been 73 today.
Talented and prolific French composer, his successes are countless. The first and the greatest were performed by France Gall, wife and mother of his children. His own singing career really took off at the very end of the 70s. He is also the composer of several rock opera and musical performances, the most famous of which is Starmania (Tycoon, in English version)***.
Michel Berger died on August 2, 1992, while he was spending his holidays in the south of France, with his wife France Gall. The next day, the couple was supposed to return to Paris in order to begin the work of rehearsals for their great tour - the first together, supposed to begin in the fall of 92 at La Cigale, travel through the Francophonie, and end in June 93 in Paris Bercy. As the two artists explained to Alain Morel's microphone a few hours before Michel Berger's death, several dates around the world were planned, such as in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where the couple had stayed the previous year.
Several months go by ... Listening only to her heart and her courage, France Gall decides not to bury "Double Jeu", their recently released album, and to keep the dates planned at Bercy. She reappears in January 1993, for "He Who Chante" on France 2, a program tribute to the man of her life, surrounded by many of their friends.
*** This show will be on display again in November 2021 at the Seine Musicale in Paris, and supervised by Raphaël Hamburger (son of France Gall and Michel Berger), Bruck Dawit (close collaborator and companion of France Gall since 1996) as well as by Luc Plamondon (author of the libretto).
______
