Directed in 1970 by Michele Lupo, CONCERTO PER PISTOLA SOLISTA (The Weekend Murders) tells the story of a family who go to a British estate to hear the reading of a will and are murdered one after the other, starting with the butler. The investigation is led by a Scotland Yard detective, played by Lance Percival, and Gastone Moschin as a local police sergeant.
The film's music, composed by Francesco De Masi, is intense and provides excellent support for the plot. The Maestro has chosen a symphonic score, performed by a large orchestra. This is accomplished with magnificent sounds and acute intuition, starting with the main credits, for which De Masi drew heavily on Tchaikovsky's work for Sleeping Beauty. It's an encounter between composer and director that has produced great artistic results throughout their collaboration, and one that ends on a high note with this magnificent soundtrack.
