This women is speaking nothing but facts, many kids get hooked on drugs and weed, just to fit in with the crowd because they are “afraid” to be that odd kid out. Because In our society, drinking & smoking makes you look cool. People don’t want to be labeled as lame they want to fit in. But in reality drinking/doing drugs is awful for your physical/mental health. I like this song. I appreciate this song, it’s also good advice. Be yourself and know that that’s good enough. You don’t have to be anybody else. If you grew up in a real Christian family then follow Jesus Christ. If you didn’t then you should. The twist about this interlude is that it isn't influential in any way. Except, it is the mindset of most our parents, and how they want us to be like they want us to be. she is not slapping yall weed users. She's targetting the abusers of drugs. Drugs, indeed when abused make you sluggish all the time. This is backed by facts and stats, you can tell me artists stay high all the time but for most of the ordinary working men its best for them to stay sober, performance is more valued than creativity. I mean in working sometimes you do have to came up with brilliant ideas and out of the box thinking but mostly you'd be there to get shits done. Occasional smoking is okay iguess. But the mom doesnt know that, in fact, it is we who dont even know the story here. This is not Frank's mom, maybe her son is the kind of child that is easily swayed, not really motivated that could be targetted to be one of the drugs abuser, or maybe they (mom and son) came from a bad neighbourhood where ppl dont value learning that much and he's mingling with the bad vibes all his life. Bottomline is It's not fair to judge a woman who is just really, really worried ab her 18yo son who just got into college to be something in life, aint gonna let anything fuck that up. The voice is not hostile, it's caring, strict, but caring. This's love for the son, not hate for yall smokers.

It's either be yourself, you don't have to do drugs, for example weed. you don't need to take drugs to fit in and you can be yourself to fit in with other people rather than acting like someone you aren't. On the other hand, be yourself, do drugs like weed as after all you are being you and not someone else as it's the choices you make that makes you yourself. To me, im both, im not sure why, I guess im in some sort of limbo when It' comes to making choices. idk just a late night thought. :)

I think this voicemail perfectly sums up any strong-willed and truly loving mother’s relationship with her child. First it’s the words of affirmation, reassurance and care. The words that come from her mouth that fill you up with this amazing sense of fulfilment and joy. There’s almost nothing like it. She makes you feel like you are worth it, makes you feel like all the pain has disappeared, makes you feel like YOU are everything that you have ever needed and will ever need. Then slowly comes the lecturing. Where there once were heartwarming sentences and fulfilling sentiments, there are now critical comments. Every interaction between the two of you becomes what seems to be a constant evaluation of every decision you make. Being forbidden to partake in certain activities and pastimes before you’ve even given them a chance. The feeling that anything you do that doesn’t align with her beliefs will be judged. Yeah, growing up with this mother can be tough. Because she’s tough. But the reality is that once upon a time she was just like you and although her judgements can be harsh and sometimes misguided, her love for you never falters. She’ll do anything to ensure that you are safe, even if that means being the overbearing mother that her child complains about to their friends when they ask him/her why they couldn’t go to that party. *Whether you want to believe it or not, she truly loves you more than anything in this world and all she wants is the best for you because she knows that you deserve it. And deep down you know it too.*

As someone who was a daily smoker for the last 3 years and has recently stopped smoking weed, she's absolutely right, I became a lazy sluggish piece of shit, I lost all my hobbies, was unmotivated, would let my apartment be trashed all the time, I've stopped smoking and completely turned my life around, don't smoke weed it's not worth it

If your mom leaves you a voicemail.... would she need to say "this is mom calling" for you to identify that it is your mom? Do you not have her number saved on your contacts? Does her voice not sound familiar?

Shows how wrong she was, Frank makes it very known he is a Marijuana user. Look how successful, artistic, smart, and concerned your son is now mom. Heman - your spot on

Thats not his mom its his friends mom who leaves him voicemails every now and then, and if you listen to Futura Free he says he hasn't smoked all year. Whether thats relative to now idk but weed isnt what makes Frank artistic. And I think the point she's trying to make is not to be a conformist within his community, which he isnt anyway.

same thanks for clearing that up, and all I said was look how artistic he is as a metaphor because of all his success. I didn't say it was just because he smokes, if he quit tomorrow his music would be just as creative if not more. I was basically just backing up hemans comment that everyone should be themselves then this mother proceeds to say everything he can't or shouldn't do which she is on par for most but drinking a beer or smoking joint doesn't make you useless or unconcerned that's all I was trying to say, but now I've got one of his friends to look up so thanks
