One of the best songs on this album IMO. The piano composition follows the exact emotions of the lyrics. It takes serious skill to hold down vocal melodies over chords like that, while flowing as fast as he does. Every bar is meaningful too, its not fast for the sake of being flashy.

Funny thing is 3 stacks came out not long ago saying he recorded the verse to a completely different beat and didnt even know hed be on the record. Frank threw out the original beat and had a famous musician compose the new piano backing we hear here. Frank took the raw energy of what was given and changed it to give it the proper stage it needed to truly hit home.

Yea this is really a useless debate but i'm gonna stir the pot anyway. He *is underrated* in the mainstream but he's *not* among people who know a little something about rap and hip-hop. Both statements are true but people always fill in the blank with the opposite audience group (mainstream vs. the music enthusiasts). I am heavily biased, though, towards him and Big Boi being 'underrated' in general, if I had to pick one, because they are well known but I don't think their level of popularity truly reflects what they brought to the table. OutKast is something special. I know it's true of a lot of other underrated artists as well who aren't half as popular as OutKast but honestly their subject matter was just deeper and better explored on a regular basis than most mainstream artists at the time imo and 95% of their beats are iconic southern hip-hop bangers. To me they represent a subgenre of hip-hop that they surely didn't pioneer alone, but that I think they built up a great deal more than most artists in that subgenre. (I'm channeling Anthony Fantano, my bad). But yea they DID sell millions and millions of records too lol they did do well for sure. But they still aren't a group that many people will talk about openly or celebrate as much outside of a niche group it's very hard to explain but I still feel that sense that OutKast is somewhat underrated as crazy as it sounds. Totally get why people disagree though.
